Full Job Description

The District is the largest geographically within Nottinghamshire with 3 Town Councils and 77 Parish Councils or meetings. Our planning issues are varied, from Green Belt, Heritage & Conservation, Town Centres, flood risk, ecology, or matters of negotiating development viability and design. The Council continues to develop a raft of regeneration initiatives and the Development team will continue to play an important role in shaping such opportunities. The planning team performs well against national targets and is valued and important politically. Your technical knowledge, experience and living our values are vital. We want a leader who knows how working with others can retain, grow, and enhance our reputation in supporting needed growth whilst also responding to new national planning reforms coming down the line. The majority of the team are permanent staff, with a mix of experiences as one would expect with an over 35 strong team. We encourage growing our own talent with 4 trainees on the establishment across our planning and enforcement teams. Key Responsibilities To manage the Council's responsibilities for the Development Management Function and Newark's Growth Agenda in order to ensure the effective delivery of services to customers in accordance with the Council's vision and values. Lead the Planning Development team which comprise: - Development Management - Planning Enforcement - Conservation - Ecology - Technical Support - Land Charges and Street Naming functions To manage the Building Control contract to ensure that the Council receives a legislatively compliant, affordable, appropriate, and responsive service from our Building Control Partnership with South Kesteven and Rushcliffe District Council's., You will be working with a professional and committed team who are passionate about supporting us to deliver the objectives as outlined in our Community Plan.

Educated to Degree level. Corporate Membership of the Royal Town. Thorough knowledge of Town and Country Planning legislation and regulations. Extensive experience in development management and promoting regeneration and growth initiatives proactively. Experience of partnership working across Local Authority functions, government agencies and the private sector at a high level. High level negotiating skills. Experience/track record of delivering improvements in the provision of quality services, culture change and new ways of working. Experience of initiating and managing projects effectively, working with public and private sector partners. Experience of commissioning, evaluating, and managing external consultants. The postholders will need to have regular access to a vehicle to enable them to travel within/outside the district to carry out their duties, including regular evening meetings.
