Full Job Description

+ To assist the Medicines Optimisation Pharmacist in the provision and development of the efficient purchasing of pharmaceuticals and Homecare service.
+ To assist the Systems and Purchasing Administrator manager to develop and deliver training to Pharmacy colleagues and other Trust healthcare professionals.
+ To assist the Systems Manager and Purchasing Administrator in developing reports from the JAC computer system and the administration of the JAC system.
+ To assist in the supervision and education of trainees in Purchasing and Homecare.
+ To assist the Medicines Optimisation Pharmacist with auditing the service.
+ To act as an Accredited Checking Technician within the dispensary at Whiston hospital on a pre-determined rota.
+ To participate in the department rota to ensure a pharmacy service is provided efficiently over 7 days, + To assist in the daily management of the Purchasing section
+ To use the JAC pharmacy computer system to maintain an efficient system of ordering from suppliers taking account of national, regional and local contracts / buying agreements.
+ To establish and implement an effective method of regular and timely dissemination of information to colleagues regarding product shortages / changes and the action being taken.
+ To assist in sourcing pharmaceutically suitable alternatives to contract items in the case of supplier failure.
+ To take an active role in reviewing contract changes
+ To assist the Medicines Optimisation Pharmacist in ensuring that unlicensed medicines are purchased according to best practice
+ To assist in the implementation and maintenance of a 'purchasing for safety' policy to promote procurement of products with inherent safety features.
+ To assess deliveries of unlicensed medicines for suitability and release them from quarantine according to the unlicensed medicines procedure.
+ To assist in the existing homecare service and contribute to the review and development of this service
+ To ensure that homecare providers adhere to their contractual obligations / service level agreements and national standards.
+ To maintain continuing professional development to maintain registration as a Pharmacy Technician and maintain accreditation as Accuracy Checking Technician.
+ To assist in the development of Information Technology, in particular the management of the Omnicell cabinets, JAC stock control system and the production of reports from the JAC system.
+ To assist in the development, roll-out and maintenance of electronic ordering and invoicing.
+ To assist in the management of recalled drugs following MHRA / notification via another route.
+ To assist in promoting patient safety and efficiency within the department.
+ To undertake personal staff appraisals and review objectives according to the Trust's requirements.
+ To act as an Accredited Checking Technician within the dispensary at Whiston hospital on a pre-determined rota.
+ To participate in the late night, weekend and bank holiday rota on a rotational basis to assist a 7 day working service.
CLINICAL & PROFESSIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES
+ To maintain professional registration with the General Pharmaceutical Council.
+ To maintain continuing professional development in line with GPhC requirements.
+ To attend and participate in study days and courses as necessary.
+ To undertake any training and assessment required to maintain competency in his/her duties.
+ To maintain security and the safe storage of medicines within the pharmacy in accordance with departmental policies and procedures.
+ To comply with and ensure that all other pharmacy staff under his/her control comply with the legal and other requirements related to the purchase, supply, use, safe custody and destruction of drugs both within the pharmacy and in all other areas of the Trust
TEACHING & TRAINING RESPONSBILITIES
+ To provide training and supervision of rotational pharmacists, pre-registration pharmacists and student technicians within the Purchasing and Homecare section.
FINANCIAL RESPONSIBILITY
+ To co-operate in the provision of an efficient and cost effective service
RESEARCH & AUDIT
+ To carry out and assist in audit research projects to improve and develop the service provision.
