Full Job Description

What is the role? This is an outward-facing role that will involve serving customers, chatting to everyone visiting the café, and preparing food in a small coffee shop environment within the main Hospice building. We currently have volunteer vacancies in our café for the following shifts: Tuesday: 9.30am - 12pm and 12pm - 2.30pm Friday: 12pm to 2.30pm What will I be doing? Role tasks:

  • Cash handling, using a till to process payments from customers
  • Providing a friendly and welcoming service to customers including, staff, visitors, patients and volunteers
  • Preparing food to a high quality, and in accordance with FSA standards
  • Ensuring the café area is kept clean, tidy and presented attractively

    Numerate and confident with handling money
  • Good people and team-working skills
  • A reasonable degree of physical fitness is required, as this is an active role
  • Previous experience of catering and/or customer experience would be welcome, but is not essential
  • Personal Qualities Required:
  • Friendly and welcoming to everyone in the Hospice community
  • Sensitivity to the nature of the environment
  • Willing to undertake training and comply with Food Standard Agency and Food Safety & Hygiene regulations
  • Confident and able to work on own initiative, but also able to take direction when required

    We appreciate your time is valuable. Whether you can spare a few hours occasionally, or on a more regular weekly basis, as part of the St Michael's Hospice team you will pay a vital role in supporting your local hospice.
