Full Job Description

We are looking for a highly motivated Manager who will be the first level of escalation for the overall team. This onsite leadership role is responsible for positioning the team to provide the best laboratory support service to research groups and enable a smooth facilitation and function of the working environment. Job Responsibilities

  • Act as first-line supervisor to team members and provide coaching, performance reviews, regular 1 on 1 meets and other administrative functions.
  • The leader will also interface with PerkinElmer Leadership to ensure key customer contacts and customer satisfaction is at a high-level.
  • Lead the calibration laboratory Team to ensure the delivery of uninterrupted service to the customers. To accomplish this, the individual must drive operational excellence by strategically managing resources as well as identifying areas of improvement.
  • Work in accordance with all regulations and requirements for each customer site and/or department following GxP guidelines for ways of working and process documentation.
  • Responsible for the coordination of training of the calibration lab team
  • Ensure adequate planning and coordination of team coverage to meet customer needs and achieve established operational metrics (e.g., PTO, Sick)
  • Act as a liaison between on-site staff and management to escalate critical issues.
  • Attend floor/building oversight meetings.
  • Facilitate regular LIS meetings/huddles.
  • Participate in the interview panel for all hires.
  • Plan and execute continuous improvement projects within the team, including mentoring.
  • Work with the Regional Leader and Admin staff to ensure all KPI/ SLAs are met addressing any documentation issues that may have an adverse effect.
  • To provide a general induction/orientation for new members of staff and visitors.Â
  • Support for infrastructure, engineering, purchasing, IT and other service providers; reporting of faults and ensuring these are closed out in a timely manner, i.e. to act as a single point of contact and help ensure minimal disruption.Â
  • Collaborate with Employee Health and Safety (EHS) to ensure a high level of safety is maintained in the lab.
  • Provide timely communication to lab users on any impact of site work., Must be able to remain in a stationary position more than 25% of the time
  • The person needs to occasionally move between labs, corridors, adjoining rooms, and buildings onsite.
  • Frequently use objects, tools or controls, which will require regular bending, squatting, stretching and reaching in order to perform in a service function.  Â
  • Occasionally move or lift up to 25 pounds (potential for occasional lifting of up to 50 pounds)
  • Specific vision abilities required by this position include without limitation, the ability to observe details at close range, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus to perform the essential job tasks of this position.
  • Regularly performs duties using computer and other office equipment.
  • Use of personal protective equipment in the laboratory (Lab coat, eye protection, gloves and safety shoes)
  • Potential risk to lab-based hazards including but not limited to chemicals, biologicals, potent compounds, research material, etc.
  • Working Environment:
  • Job pace may be fast and job completion demands may be high.
  • Employee may be required to manage hazardous wastes in compliance with company procedures & State/Federal/Local hazardous waste regulations. Duties may include, identifying, handling, generating, accumulating, storing and/or labeling.
  • Maintain safety, security, and the environment in all aspect of daily activities, and report any potential safety hazard to be corrected immediately.
  • Understand ergonomic relationship between people, equipment and working environment.

  • Microsoft 365 skills including: Outlook, Teams, Word, Excel, Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent) in Engineering, Technical, or Sciences with 3+ year(s) servicing laboratory equipment OR
  • Higher National Diploma (HND) (or equivalent) in Engineering, Technical, or Sciences with 4+ year(s) of experience servicing laboratory equipment OR
  • A Level (or equivalent) in Engineering, Technical, or Sciences with 5+ year(s) of experience servicing laboratory equipment OR
  • General Certificate of Secondary Education (GCSE) with 6+ years of experience serving laboratory equipment., Experience in Scientific instrumentation / Metrology techniques
  • Experience of a wide range of metrological techniques, reviewing and building measurement uncertainty
  • Strong knowledge of ISO 9001 and ISO 17025 quality standards
  • Experience working in a Pharmaceutical or regulated environment.
  • Knowledge of 5S and/or 6 sigma principles is a plus.
