    The Teachable AI Experiences (TAIX) (https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/research/project/project-tokyo/) team at Microsoft Research Cambridge (UK) is a multi-disciplinary team that aims to drive technical innovation in human-AI interaction through the lens of inclusion. The team is looking to hire an intern with expertise in data visualization to contribute to a project looking at how we visualize the connection between data and the adaptation of large multimodal models to ensure that they work better for marginalized communities.
  • The goal of the internship will be to contribute visualization to a platform technology aimed at helping communities understand how well ML models are being adapted for their needs. The candidate should have: 1) strong understanding of visualization techniques; 2) experience working with machine learning in some capacity; and 3) an ability to build interactive visualization prototypes based on Python/web technologies or equivalent. Candidates should have a passion for equitable AI. The outcomes of the project may lead to a publication in a relevant conference, integration into a Microsoft product/ application and/or societal impact. The internship offers a unique opportunity to have real-world impact and drive state-of-the-art research at the intersection of ML and human-computer interaction, in collaboration with a multi-disciplinary team.,
  • Currently pursuing a Masters or PhD in human-computer interaction, computer science, data visualization, data science/ engineering, or a related area. All applicants must be currently enrolled in an educational institution.
  • Demonstrable experience in building prototypes for interactive visualization.
  • Experience developing in Python, running inference on ML models and communicatingresults.
  • Effective communication skills and ability to work in a collaborative environment., Some experience in understanding or working with ML models (e.g., LLM APIs).
  • The ability to approach technical problems and design solutions with a multi-disciplinary perspective.
  • Passion for ensuring the inclusion of marginalised communities in AI technologies.
  • Previous experience with working in a multi-disciplinary team with diverse skill sets.
