Full Job Description
We are pleased to advertise an exciting opportunity for an outstanding candidate (RMN, OT or Social Worker) to join our dynamic and energetic CAMHS Emergency Care Service (CECS). CECS provide Therapeutic Assessments for young people under 18 presenting with a mental health crisis to A&E's and paediatric wards in South West London. We are committed to improving the care of CYP experiencing a mental health crisis and aim for the time we spend with CYP, their families / carers to be meaningful with a focus on formulation and intervention alongside assessment.
CECS Clinicians also provide follow up appointments and are also a key link to further support and liaise closely with the young person, family and other professionals to ensure a smooth transition to the appropriate treatment/ support. The team utilise skills gained in specialist training courses including Solutions Focused Therapy, DBT skills, Family Work and Therapeutic Assessment.
If you are committed and passionate about supporting Children and Young People, are enthusiastic to work in an energetic team who are developing innovative ways of working, then we would encourage you to apply for this role., The successful candidate will support all aspects of the CECS pathway including triaging referrals, meeting with CYP and their families / carers in ED and paediatric wards to provide comprehensive assessment and interventions, offer follow up appointments and arrange ongoing care.
Caring for CYP experiencing a mental health crisis requires a supportive multi-agency approach and the successful candidate will liaise with all professionals involved in the CYP's care such as Acute Trust clinicians, social care, CAMHS teams, schools, GP's in addition to consulting with and referring to other professionals/ services such as the SWLSTG Adolescent Outreach Team, Safeguarding Leads, CAMHS Inpatient Pathway, Transition workers and Adult Mental Health Services.
The role will utilise the candidates' excellent organizational skills and ability to work both independently and as part of a team with many opportunities to build professional relationships across different services and organisations within health and social care., The CECS Team, Leadership and Administration Hub is based at Springfield. As CECS provide a service to St Georges, St Helier and Kingston Hospital the role requires travel to these locations where required for Clinical Work and meetings with other professionals., To undertake psychosocial assessment of young people presenting to acute hospitals in mental health crisis. Assessments will take place on the Paediatric wards and A&E Departments of St George's, St Helier, and Kingston Hospital.
- To liaise and consult with CAMHS colleagues to provide further specialist assessment if necessary.
- To offer follow up appointments following initial assessment to review risk management plans and assess further support required. To provide links and transition support to other services as indicated.
- To evaluate and make decisions about treatment options in consultation with teams across the Trust and wider agencies including social services, voluntary services, CAMHS teams, the Adolescent Assertive Outreach team, psychiatric inpatient wards, respectively.
- To provide advice, guidance and consultation to other professionals working in other agencies and contribute to multi-agency care planning.
- To provide clinical leadership of CAMHS cases to clinicians of the Paediatric wards, Adult Psychiatry Liaison teams and A&E staff.
- To follow the assessment protocol and to complete the clinical record on the CAMHS Clinical Information System (IAPTUS) maintaining clinical records appropriately and in line with the Trust policy
- To participate in regular clinical supervision.
- To ensure high standards of verbal and written communication with all staff and clients that maximise user involvement in the delivery of care and treatment
- To comply with London Child Protection Procedures on the management of child protection issues and those of South West London and St George's Mental Health NHS Trust.
Educational
- To use evidence-based approach to develop, inform, and maintain a high standard of practice.
- To be reflective, self-questioning and continuously appraise own performance.
- To evaluate clinical input and to review outcomes with the team.
- To work with other members of the team providing education of supporting young people presenting with a mental health crisis to staff in A&E and Paediatric wards,
- To take an active part in the organisation and delivery of multi-disciplinary training by the team to enhance the competency and ability of GPs to identify and treat self-harm, emotional and mental health related difficulties.
- To act as a mentor/ practice educator to students on placement within the CAMHS Emergency Care Service and support the learning of students in other CAMHS teams.
Clinical Governance
- To maintain professional registration.
- To contribute to the education and training of A & E, paediatric and Adult Psych Liaison staff on specialist assessment and best practice care of children and young people with mental health needs.
- To develop and maintain good relationships and clear lines of communication with other professionals, agencies, and departments.
- To participate in staff development programmes.
- To participate in the development and auditing of service standards.
- To keep up to date with current developments, national guidelines, and research-based practise in CAMHS.
- To actively contribute to complex case reviews and multiagency meetings in the planning of care for children and young people.
- To be proactive in seeking the views of service users and stakeholders in helping to evaluate and review the work of the service.
Administration
- To keep up to date comprehensive clinical notes and prepare formal documents such as letters, referral and discharge summaries and reports.
- To maintain and record client contact statistics using CAMHS clinical systems.
- To ensure administrative tasks are completed within the time scales set down in the service standards.
- To attend team meetings, supervision support sessions and reviews as agreed.
-To contribute to the formulation and evaluation of policies and the development of ideas for changing policies as appropriate.
Training and Development
- To attend all mandatory and statutory training sessions as required by the Trust.
- To participate in continuing professional development, monitoring requirements and make recommendations for the most appropriate model of service delivery.
- To receive professional and clinical supervision from an appropriately experienced clinician within the field of child mental health.
- To receive management supervision with a nominated manager at agreed frequency.
- To participate in annual Performance Appraisal and Development Review (PADR), in line with Agenda for Change and Knowledge and Skills Framework.
- To undertake personal development as identified in the Personal Development Plan (PDP).
