Full Job Description

Your role in the Children in Care team will be:

To provide a specialist clinical service for Looked after Children, young people and their carers and adopted children and their parents.

To provide advice and consultation on colleagues from other agencies and to other, non professional carers, working autonomously within their professional guidelines and the overall framework of the team's policies and procedures.

To participate in audit, policy and service development within the specialist area of the Children and Young People in Care team (CAMHS).

To be an important member of the Looked after Children team whose therapeutic approach integrates the attachment, systemic, cognitive and psychoanalytical traditions and practice.

We are excited to offer an opportunity, to someone who is passionate and skilled with working with children and young people in the looked after system and have experienced significant attachment and trauma, to join our newly developed Children in Care team at Walsall CAMHS. The post is a band 6 post and is open to any professional who has a qualification and experience in a mental health related subject such as a mental health nurse, creative occupation therapist, social worker etc. We especially welcome colleagues from the creative arts back ground who also have additional skills they can bring.

We are seeking a someone who can bring skills, experience and enthusiasm to meet the needs of children/ young people with complex mental health needs.

You will need to be appropriately qualified and registered with your professional body i.e. RCN, HCPC, BASW, BABCP or an equivalent body, and be adhering to the relevant code of ethics and practice.

We are a team that prides itself on creative, innovative and evidenced based approaches to our work with service users and carers and value a supportive and reflective culture in the work environment. The team is embedded within the core CAMHS team which is one of four CAMHS teams in the Trust. Each CAMHS team is a large, dynamic and successful CAMHs service comprising of a broad spectrum of disciplines and a long tradition of effective multidisciplinary and interagency working. Each of the four teams also has a specialist Children in Care Team.

There is a monthly CPD training event offered to all CAMHS practitioners and an opportunity to attend case discussions and reflective practice. CPD and training is recognised as an important part of professional development and this is considered in a yearly appraisal.
