Full Job Description
- To work autonomously managing highly specialist complex clients with eating disorders, identifying, planning and delivering highly specialist dietetic interventions, demonstrating expertise in this area of clinical speciality.
- To provide a highly specialist nutrition advisory and dietetic service as part of the CAMHS Community Eating Disorders Service, and as part of the CAMHS Inpatient Service.
- Provide advanced nutritional and dietetic advice in a specialist area to medical, health care professionals and other agencies.
- Act as the lead dietetic specialist for the CAMHS Acute Pathway services , managing a highly specialist caseload.
- To provide a highly specialist nutrition advisory and dietetic service across the Trust.
- Participate in service development within own clinical area and contribute to the nutrition and dietetic service as a whole through participation in service development.
- To provide strategic direction to the Trust to ensure that it meets its requirements as laid out by the CQC.
- To provide an active role in ensuring that mental health staff within the Trust are able to undertake assessments to determine malnutrition appropriate to the age of the service user.
- To act as an independent practitioner for a highly specialist clinical caseload.
- To use highly developed communication skills for patients/carers and the team.
- To develop effective working relationships across all agencies.
- To communicate and liaise effectively with other members of the MDT, including attendance at CPA/MDT meetings if required.
- To provide expert assessment, and advice to patients and carers, providing evidence based highly specialised nutritional care plans.
- To act as a source of highly specialist information and advice on current best practice in mental health dietetics for colleagues, other health care professionals and clinicians.
- To work with patients with complex needs, including communication impairment and lack of capacity.
- To make recommendations about the safe and appropriate use of nutritional supplements, drug prescriptions and interactions relating to nutritional intake.
- To be responsible for advising on the procurement of suitable enteral feeding products and equipment for the service.
- To devise, monitor and review highly specialised care plans against outcome measures to facilitate the achievement of goals.
- Gain valid consent to treatment and negotiate change with patients by breaking down barriers, using motivational skills, to enable them to achieve dietary targets set.
- To ensure safe and timely discharge of patients, liaising with appropriate internal and external agencies.
- To provide accurate clinical recording. - Decide daily on priorities for own work area balancing patient related and professional demands.
- Contribute to task and finish groups as required.
- Complete allocated projects and meet deadlines.
- Record patient activity data.
- Provide supervision for band 6 Mental Health Dietitians working across the directorate, including agreeing annual leave and cover for the team and travel claims.
- Deliver training to mental health staff on nutritional issues as required.
- Contribute to the training of pre-registration dietetic students on clinical placement (subject to six months post-registration experience) by: Participating in the development and revision of the training programme. Acting as a role model. Undertaking clinical supervision, tutorials, feedback and assessment.
- Contribute to the development of educational resources, which are evidence based and acceptable to patients and carers.
- Contribute to the development of mental health dietetic care pathways, assessment tools, care plans and other resources that support patient care.
- Plan, deliver and evaluate formal and informal training within specialism to audiences of other health care professionals, staff and patients, including internal and external study days.
- Work within the Health and Care Professions Council's Standards of Conduct, Performance and Ethics and Standards of Proficiency.
- Attend Trust induction training and mandatory training programmes.
- Identify personal training needs through participation in regular continuous professional development activities and individual performance review.
- Maintain a personal portfolio as evidence of competence to practice.
- Undertake defined audit projects as part of clinical practice.
- Contribute to the development of mental health dietetic evidence based treatment policies, protocols, standards and guidelines.
- To ensure data collection is robust to enable outcome measures and service evaluation can be monitored.
- To undertake any other reasonable duty, which is appropriate to the band, when requested by Senior Staff.
- To be familiar with and comply with all Trust and departmental policies, procedures, protocols and guidelines.
- To be aware of and work towards the Trusts strategic goals.
