Full Job Description

We're looking for a Campaigns Copywriter to join our Strategic Communications team to cover a maternity leave vacancy. This post is a fixed term contract until 1st May 2025. This is a part-time role, working 3 days per week. The working days will be agreed upon appointment. The Campaigns Copywriter works closely with the Strategic Communications Manager for Special Projects on producing written campaign materials to inform, influence and inspire BMA members on some of our most high-profile and impactful campaigns. The successful candidate will be responsible for drafting messages for newsletters, ad hoc emails, video scripts, printed campaign materials including leaflets and posters, and social media posts and infographics. The audience for these communications is mainly BMA members and occasionally prospective members, but some writing for the public is also part of the role, as is contributing to or coming up with campaign themes and slogans. This is a hybrid role and will involve a mix of working from home and from BMA House.

  • Previous experience of working on campaigns
  • Demonstrable copywriting skills with very little need of an editor
  • Excellent understanding of different communications channels and how to tailor messages for them, and for different audiences
  • Ability to pivot between projects and priorities and comfort coming up with ideas and suggestions when asked to write copy without a detailed brief
  • Experience of working at a comparable membership organisation or trade union is desirable but not essential
  • Knowledge of the BMA's current campaigns and priorities would also be helpful but not essential; what is most important is your writing skill, sound judgment and ability to hit the ground running.

30 days holiday entitlement plus bank holidays and a BMA company day
  • Double matching pension contributions up to 12% of salary
  • Additional leave entitlement for volunteering or moving house (after completion of probationary period)
  • Onsite gym and subsidised café at BMA House
  • Access to a 24/7 Employee Assistance Programme (EAP) with free confidential counselling, a helpline and specialist support available
  • BMA Law - discounted rates for employees requiring legal services such as will writing/conveyancing
  • Multiple flexible benefits and discounts through our employee benefits platform
  • Lots of Learning and Development/training opportunities via our internal learning hub
  • Season ticket loan (up to £10,000) after completion of probationary period
  • Anonymous recruitment The BMA endeavours to be an inclusive employer, ensuring fairness and consistency to select the best candidate for roles. To support our aims, we use specific software to remove all personal identifying information from CVs and applications. Personal information such as name, date of birth, age and gender are anonymised and will only become visible to hiring managers if you are selected for interview. Whether the role needs you to work at home, in an office or in a hybrid way, we`ll provide all the support you need.
