Our team offers an innovative end-to-end service with a proven track record in the field Remote Engineering, Design and Robotics. We offer a wide range of services including the mechanical and electrical design, development and deployment of purpose built, remotely operable, inspection and intervention systems for use within nuclear production and power plants and for decommissioning activities. Our robotics area is growing, delivering a varied portfolio of work focused on customers operational needs and the development of innovative techniques and solutions supporting their future strategies. We are looking for a motivated individual to manage our dedicated team of experts based at NNL's Workington Laboratory. You will co-ordinate and lead the operational activities within the Remote Engineering, Design and Robotics team assuring safe, successful delivery of agreed customer work scopes and continuous improvement of the team activities. We are looking for a candidate who has people management experience and can provide guidance, coaching and direction to team members with a range of experience in an engineering workplace, and identify opportunities for operational improvements, staff development and recruitment. As Capability Manager you will play a crucial role in the success of the team, nurturing and supporting the team in a way that's helpful, positive, and motivating, ensuring the mental health and wellbeing of the team. A strong engineering background is essential.,

  • The Capability Manager (CM) will be accountable forEHSS&Q within their team:
  • + Duty of care for all staff identified (Electrical, Mechanical and Research Technologists). + Ownership and safe operations of equipment and facilities. + Delivery of projects, programs and technical work. + Delivery of the EHSS&Q Assurance and Improvement Plans. Capability Accountabilities:
  • The CM will be accountable for all resources within their team:
  • + Staff: Leadership, performance, availability, SQEP, competency review, development, technical training, progression and recruitment. + Facilities & Equipment: maintenance, renewal, disposal, repair, inspection, access and utilisation. Budget Control Accountabilities:
  • The CM will support the Capability Leader for all budgetary control associated with their team and will be measured against budget control throughKPI's:
  • + Staff costs including, recruitment, training, progression, T&S. Reward and Recognition. + Facilities & Equipment costs maintenance, renewal, disposal, repair, inspection, access and utilisation. Customer Delivery Accountabilities:
  • The CM will be accountable for all customer delivery associated with their team:
  • + Work with Account Directors and Customer Workstream Leads to engage with customer to maximise all business opportunities. + Technical excellence in customer delivery. + Technical resolution. Leadership Accountabilities:
  • The CM will be accountable for cultural and business strategies associated with their team:
  • + Development of the team in line with business requirements and recognising technical advancements. + Team Strategy Development, implementation, and review + Quality of science and customer delivery. + People performance, development and cultural change.,

    A directly relevant science degree or an equivalent level of relevant experience.
  • Line management experience.
  • Working to high quality standards in a highly regulated environment.
  • Ability to obtain SC level security clearance.
  • Ability to obtain SC level security clearance (this includes but is not limited to identity, employment, financial and criminal record checks plus 5 years' worth of UK residency).
  • Desirable Criteria for Capability Manager:
  • Previous experience of working in a highly regulated environment such Nuclear or COMAH.
  • Familiar with Engineering design practices and procedures associated with nuclear engineering projects.
  • Experience of nuclear operations and an understanding of nuclear safety and nuclear security culture.
  • Clear Communication style.
  • Knowledge of CM&I regulations.
  • Experienced in SSOW and Work permissioning processes.
