Full Job Description
Under the supervision of a Registered Nurse you will provide care to patients to the highest attainable standard, in accordance to the clinical plan and maintaining the patients activities of daily living, following trust policies/procedures and guidelines.
Be competent to carry out a number of dexterous duties relevant to the Cath Lab area to a high level in a caring compassionate and efficient manner and escalate and concerns or issues promptly to a senior healthcare professional.
You will be involved in all aspects of care from admission through to discharge or transfer if appropriate, with inclusion safe transfer and escort.
You will be expected to recognize the signs of a deteriorating patient and inform senior staff immediately of any concern, responding appropriately to urgent and emergency situations.
IT skills will be required to document care provision within the patients EPR.
You will assist in the cleaning and maintenance of the Cath Lab areas with inclusion of reporting / removing hazard appropriately. You will adhere to IRMER guidance to ensure safety within radiation exposure areas.

+ To transfer patients to and from all clinical areas.
+ Assist in the safe moving and positioning of patients.
+ Perform basic Nursing care to the highest attainable standard, in accordance with agreed Nursing Practice.
+ Preparation of clinical area prior to procedure, by ensuring correct function of equipment, reporting any discrepancies and that there are adequate supplies of supplementary items.
+ Assist in the preparation of cath lab prior to list or procedure.
+ Support the clinical team during procedures - e.g. prepare sterile field, assistant the operator in basic procedures, carry out safety checks as instructed.
+ Carry out venepuncture, cannulation and ECG's as required.
+ Assist in the cleaning of clinical areas and equipment, ensuring that the area is clear of potential hazards i.e. blood products, clinical waste and contaminated items to relevant collection areas.
+ Ensure adequate stock levels are maintained - e.g. of linen and clinical equipment and report discrepancies. Order and replace as appropriate.
+ Take delivery, check in relevant items and store all supplies and equipment for the clinical area.
+ Deliver specimens/ x ray's as required by local policy.
+ Complete all documentation as per local policies - e.g. cardiac care pathway, care plans or electronic record.
+ Care of patients' notes and filing of notes in accordance with Trust policy.
+ Refer any untoward incidents to the senior person on duty via IR1 reporting system.
+ Support and supervise support staff within the department, and provide necessary training as required.
+ Communicate with patients and colleagues by telephone, face to face, in writing or electronically to contribute to the efficient running of the department.
+ Maintain a confidential and professional approach when dealing with patients, their relatives, and other professionals.
+ Ensure good liaison with other Wards and Departments.
+ Participate and contribute to unit meetings as necessary.
+ Co-operate with members of the multi-disciplinary team.
+ Attend mandatory training and reviews as local policy.
+ Hold a basic care certificate and maintain standards accordingly.
+ Be willing to undertake further training relevant to role.
+ Participate in performance review process and achieve objectives.
+ Contribute to the development of the service.
+ Participate in clinical audit, trials and research within the department as required.
+ To comply with safety policies, procedures and guidelines for self and others.
+ To handle patient information effectively and safely in line with trust information governance policy, CQC standard and current legislation.

The Cardiac Cath Lab provides acute and elective cardiac interventions to the patients of East Lancashire and beyond, using state of the art imaging technologies. The right candidate will have significant experience as a band 2 health care assistant or have experience at band 3 level. The right candidate will be able to demonstrate the core behaviors, set out in the trust behavior framework, you will actively work alongside the multidisciplinary team to deliver services in a safe personal and effective manner.
