Full Job Description

A senior cardiac physiologist, specialising in cardiac rhythm management, is sought to join our small, friendly team within the cardio-respiratory investigations unit at Tameside General Hospital.

Appropriate degree-level qualification and relevant post graduate rhythm management accreditation is required with substantial post qualification experience including in a supervisory/ leadership capacity.

Extensive knowledge and experience of pacemaker and loop recorder implantation and follow up is vital as well as non-invasive diagnostic modalities.

The successful candidate will work closely with the CRI manager and other speciality leads to provide day to day leadership and guidance to the team and will actively contribute to ongoing developments within the department.

Main duties of the job

Develop, manage and deliver a safe, high quality device implant and follow up service including pacemakers and implantable loop recorders.

Actively participate in the development of the cardio-respiratory investigations unit looking for ways to improve the services provided by the department

Actively participate in the development of physiologist/ nursing lead services such as loop implants and cardioversion

Oversee the day to day running of the CRI unit, dealing with queries from patients, relatives/ carers and healthcare professionals.

Represent CRI in the wider trust and Greater Manchester community

Provide comprehensive pacing reports to national standards for pacemaker and loop checks based on technical and clinical findings. Reports will include complex facts requiring skilled analysis and interpretation.

Support the implanting Cardiologist, in a theatre setting, with the implantation of cardiac devices and be responsible for the optimisation of the pacemaker function at implant.

Adapt technical findings, clinical indications and physical condition of patient to decide whether further intervention or pacing adjustments are necessary. Taking into consideration safety of patient.

Provide clinical advice and highly specialist professional direction regarding criteria for device management.

Interrogate ICD's (internal cardiac defibrillators) as required following strict protocols, ensuring safety of patients at all times.
