Full Job Description

The Cardiac Physiology service is recruiting a full-time clerical administrator as part of a service re-structure and expansion plan. This role is essential for ensuring the smooth delivery of the Cardiac Physiology non-invasive service, supporting our patients, staff and Trust compliance to managing waiting times for diagnostic tests. If you are enthusiastic, empathetic and have excellent digital, communication and prioritisation skills you could be the ideal candidate. The role will suit a team player who is also able to act on their own initiative and prioritise their workload with flexibility to the daily operational demands. The role includes welcoming patients, clinicians, and visitors to the department, dealing with enquiries, bookings and appointments via the telephone, email and in person. In addition, the role includes scheduling various diagnostic tests, database and waiting list management, and data validation so good IT skills are essential.

  • A polite and helpful first point of contact for patients, staff and visitors to the Cardiology Department.
  • Ability to work efficiently in a busy and sometimes pressurised environment.
  • Manage electronic referrals and schedule appointments using the cardiology database - Solus, following department policies and guidelines.
  • Maintain a high degree of accuracy to ensure the correct information is reported in systems and to patients.
  • Support the clinical staff by monitoring diagnostic waiting times and ensuring waiting lists are managed according to national guidelines.
  • Deal with enquiries from patients, staff and visitors including by telephone and email.
  • Engage and liaise appropriately with the clinical team for any queries beyond the scope of the administrator role.
  • Monitor Business Intelligence validation tools to guide waiting list management
  • Provide comprehensive administrative support to the service, including accurate documentation of the team brief, scheduling meetings, recording meeting minutes, and other such duties as directed by the Lead Cardiac Physiologist for Echo or the Cardiac Physiology Manager
  • To support the reception area during periods of absence
  • The Cardiology department at Dorset County Hospital is an innovative and growing department. Cardiac Physiology supports numerous diagnostic and interventional examinations to provide a comprehensive and dynamic cardiac service to West Dorset. We currently have 2 Cath Labs, performing a range of diagnostic and interventional cardiac procedures. We also provide highly skilled ECG, ECG analysis and Echocardiography procedures, cardiac device implant and follow up services. Dorset County Hospital is in the county town of Dorchester which has good rail links to Southampton, Bristol and London and boasts highly rated schools. Dorset is a delightful place to live and work with the choice of coast or country for leisure activities. Dorchester has undergone a major refurbishment with lots of bars and restaurants providing evening entertainment. The seaside town of Weymouth is nearby with lots of water sports opportunities.
