Full Job Description
As a valued member of the cardiothoracic anaesthetic team,you will have the opportunity to apply your clinical and technical nursing/ODP expertise to ensure high-quality patient care. Your role will be essential in providing skilled anaesthetic assistance. In the John Radcliffe Cardiothoracic Operating Theatre Department, we have 3 theatres, 2 cardiac theatres and 1 thoracic theatre. This provides an opportunity to gain diverse anaesthetic experience in cardiothoracic anaesthesia and surgery, as well as in general anaesthesia for various Cath lab procedures. As part of the role, you will be working clinically within the anaesthetic team, undertaking the theatre coordinator role, and providing clinical supervision to students and new starters. You will work a shift pattern, and there is an on-call commitment in this role. You will be encouraged and supported to further develop using the learning opportunities available Our cardiothoracic departments are based in the OUH Foundation Trust in Headington, Oxford.,
- As a Band 6, we expect you to provide exceptional clinical leadership within the Anaesthetic Team and to guide, empower, and encourage the delivery of high-quality care.
- Work alongside your cardiothoracic anaesthetist to care for patients during anaesthetics. Monitor, assess, and respond to changes in the patient's condition.
- Prepare a wide range of specialist equipment, such as anaesthetic machines, intravenous equipment, and devices to safely secure the patient's airway during anaesthesia.
- Undertake the role of theatre coordinator, responsible for the smooth day-to-day of our busy cardiothoracic operation theatre, working with the full multidisciplinary team.
- Undertaking an on-call commitment torespond to cardiothoracic emergency surgery out-of-hours.
- Accurately document and report information regarding the care given to patients to other members of the perioperative team and multi-disciplinary team, communicating changes as they occur.
- Identify and discuss patient needs with the team/staff, patients, carers, and the multi-disciplinary team. Be able to plan your workload and those of others as required.
- Demonstrate a problem-solving approach to effectively execute planning, implementation, and evaluation of individualized plans of care.
- IV Preparation and administration as well as ensure the safe custody and administration of drugs according to Trust policy.
- Monitoring stock levels and ordering supplies as required
- Always maintain patient dignity and confidentiality.
