Full Job Description

As our Countryside Ranger working weekends and bank holidays in all weathers, you'll be using work vehicles to travel across the parks, helping to promote and assist visitors' enjoyment of the countryside. Excellent customer service is at the heart of what we do, and being confident and welcoming with members of the public from all walks of life is an essential part of the role. Working within a team your duties will include practical habitat management, public access works, site compliance and safety checks. You will lead, as well as contribute to, events and school visits; ensure our parks are clean and tidy, carrying out routine maintenance as required; lead and manage volunteer groups; monitor and enforce car parking and bailiff the fishery at Kingsbury Water Park. In addition, you may be required to work at other parks across the county and work additional hours.

  • To be qualified or studying towards a qualification in countryside or recreation management;
  • Have knowledge of conservation, recreation and countryside issues and have developed practical countryside skills. Relevant activities include the use of brush cutters, tractors, trailers, chainsaws and ride-on mowers.
  • As you'll be managing a variety of relationships it's important you have strong communication skills and experience of leading on and providing events for children.
  • It is essential that you want to work weekends and bank holidays and equally important you can work within a team, providing support to your colleagues, as well as on your own initiative.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to work under pressure are also required., The Fluency Duty is outlined in the Code of Practice on the English language requirements for public sector workers. The Fluency Duty for this role is Required. You must be able to speak and provide advice in accurate spoken English to the public.
