The predecessor school was judged as inadequate with serious weaknesses in 2021 and in a little over two years we have developed a strong collaborative culture and effective practices that have been recognised positively by Ofsted when they inspected the school in January 2024. Job context

To support the efficient delivery of the careers provision at Stantonbury School so that students experience high quality careers education, information, advice and guidance (CEIAG) and are well prepared for their future study, training and career choices. Initially work will be strongly supported and supervised by the Head of Careers, but as the apprenticeship term progresses the careers adviser will be expected to work with less supervision, using their knowledge and skills gained from the qualification part of the apprenticeship.

Careers Information, Advice and Guidance

  • Talking to students about their abilities, interests and achievements, in small group and one-to-one meetings


  • Exploring learning and work opportunities


  • Providing information, advice and guidance to students, allowing them to make informed career choices


  • Agreeing actions plans with students to support their progress through education and training


  • Helping students to over barriers to careers, training and study progression


  • Participating in the careers lunchtime drop-in service providing information and advice to students


  • To be part of the careers rota that attends to the online / virtual careers support needs of students in Year 13 or Year 11 post examination results days (part of the contractual requirement to work five additional days over the school holidays)


  • To work to the school's standard operating procedures for careers information, advice and guidance.


  • Careers Profiling

  • Learn how to undertake profiling using the Myers Briggs 16 Personality types, when it is appropriate to use profiling and how to embed it into careers practice: by the end of the apprenticeship to be using this methodology correctly.


  • Workshops and Careers Events

  • Delivery of workshops that help students become more aware of their skills, knowledge and positive characteristics


  • Delivery of workshops that prepare students for the World of Work


  • Full participation in major careers events such as the December Careers Fair


  • To support careers trips, and where appropriate lead small, local careers trips


  • To facilitate business visits to the school for presentation or workshop purposes


  • Participating in events at the school, including parents' evening and examination results mornings


  • To work to the school's standard operating procedures for workshops and careers events.


  • Study and Labour Markets

  • Learning about and developing knowledge of occupational and labour market information; developing resources that allow students to explore their study and training options


  • Participating in collection of destination data, September Guarantee / Local Activity data through student and family contact (study and training data).


  • Networking

  • Establishing and developing links with a range of universities, further education colleges, apprenticeship providers, university technical colleges and training providers


  • Establishing and developing links with employers locally, regionally and nationally


  • Establishing links with the Local Enterprise Partnership (LEP), the school's LEP business partners and other external organisations


  • Sharing good practice with other schools in the LEP and developing the school's careers service with ideas from other careers leads and careers advisers locally, regionally and nationally


  • Supporting the building of a network of alumni who can help enrich the careers guidance programme.


  • Careers Platforms

  • To be the main administrator of the school's Unifrog careers platform


  • To train students and staff on effective use of the platform


  • To effectively track all student participation in careers activities using the school's master tracker for student participation.


  • Administration

  • To be the main administrator within the careers team (about two-days-per-week).


  • Work Experience

  • To be the main administrator relating to the school's Business to Business partner for work experience


  • To ensure that tracking spreadsheets and student documentation are correct


  • To work to the school's standard operating procedures for work experience.


  • This role is 37 hours per week / 40 weeks per year
