Full Job Description

Following my care plan and providing help if I have a seizure, including administering medication (though this is rare)

Looking for a nurturing, fun carer to work weekends in Woodbridge with a cheeky and full of energy 8-year-old boy who has autism, epilepsy and learning difficulties.

The main purpose of your role will be to help me live life safely, while offering encouragement and helping with day-to-day tasks so I can have a good day. You will be expected to undertake lone work within the family home, but initially any trips out will be as a family until it is felt you can confidently meet my needs. You must be prepared to witness me having seizures even though this can be upsetting to experience. Your main duty when this occurs is to comfort me and time my seizures in case you need to administer medication, although this is unlikely. Flexibility is a must as my needs vary drastically from day to day., Reliable, honest, friendly, nurturing

GCSE or equivalent qualification in Maths and English

Physically fit enough to keep up with me

Can use your initiative in difficult situations

Good communication and can interpret words that may be difficult to understand and identify their meaning

Good observation skills

Previous experience and/or training of caring for a child with autism and/or epilepsy, or willingness to undergo training

Friendly, approachable, honest, clear communicator, good time keeping.

Desirable Criteria

Relevant university degree (e.g. social work, child development)

Ability to use picture cards to support communication

Ability to make social stories

Ability to use zones of regulation

Teaching experience in a SEN environment

Autism experience with pathological demand avoidance

Hours, days and times of work: Hours can be discussed at interview. Hours are to be worked on weekends and after school hours.

Pay rate: £15.00 per hour

Annual leave: The annual holiday entitlement for this position will be equivalent to the work normally done during 5.6 weeks (statutory entitlement).

Expenses: You will be reimbursed for prior agreed expenses incurred as part of the role.

Sick pay: I do not operate a private sick pay scheme but provided you meet the eligibility criteria, you may be entitled to Statutory Sick Pay (SSP).

Pension: I do not operate a private pension scheme but I will fulfil my statutory obligations via the NEST pension scheme.

The post is subject to the following

Background check: A satisfactory Enhanced with Barred List(s) Disclosure and Barring Service check is required for this position.

If you have been convicted of a criminal offence, please send these details to SIL in a separate email or in a sealed envelope together with a stamped addressed envelope. This will not be shared unless you are shortlisted for the post.

References: If successful, you will be required to provide details of two referees, one of which must be your current or most recent employer, or character references if you have not been employed

Trial period: This post is subject to a probationary period of 3 months.
