Full Job Description
The duties of the post, some of which will require physical effort such as standing for long periods, walking distances, climbing stairs, bending, stretching and lifting, pushing and pulling and using cleaning and maintenance equipment and driving university transport, will include the following:
1. Removing rubbish and recycling from buildings and external bins. All rubbish and recycling transported to compactor or other appropriate receptacle using a motorised vehicle where available.
2. Litter picking and general cleaning of areas directly outside of residential accommodation.
3. Cleaning communal areas of residences to the required standard, including shampooing carpets when necessary.
4. Cover Housekeeping staff duties as and when required.
5. Distribute student post.
6. Undertaking weekly fire alarm testing, legionella checks, and any other relevant health and safety checks that may be required, recording this information for audit purposes as necessary.
7. Maintain door locks including, but not limited to, battery changes and reprogramming locks with the use of laptop/service terminals.
8. Carry out minor repairs to furniture and fittings, including the replacement of these when necessary.
9. Driving, checking and cleaning the departmental motorised vehicles as required.
10. Ensuring that all machinery is kept in a clean and safe condition, reporting any faults directly to the line manager., 11. Collecting and distributing materials and equipment from stores/external delivery companies. This will include manual handling of items such as mattresses and furniture.
12. Flexibility in relation to University key events such as Arrivals Day, Visit Days, student 'move-out' days, summer conference season, Christmas rubbish collection and any other key University key accommodation events.
13. Ensuring that Health and Safety guidelines are followed at all times.
14. Assisting with the training and mentoring of new and temporary members of staff within the team.
15. Assisting with distribution of laundry and equipment during conference season.
16. lssuing and collecting master keys as required, and ensuring their secure storage, in the absence of the line manager.
17. Any other such duties as may be assigned from time to time by the Deputy Director (Services) or their nominee.
