The Council is looking for a ‘Maintenance Operative’ to undertake caretaking and gardening duties. This is an exciting opportunity to work in a bustling semi-rural town and to join our newly established Operations team.

The ideal candidate will have excellent maintenance skills across multiple disciplines, be hardworking, physically fit, and able to prioritise their own workload.

Additional attributes the role requires include: confidence working at a range of locations within the town, practical knowledge of health and safety, experience working with different stakeholders and around the public, a good grasp of technology including smartphone/email use, problem-solving and communication skills, proficiency in literacy and numeracy, the ability to follow instruction manuals and diagrams.

Caretaking duties will include: maintenance and repairs including plumbing, electrical, carpentry, and decorating tasks; coordinating and overseeing repairs with external contractors; keyholder responsibilities; operating and maintaining a work van (with a full and clean driving licence); responding to any health & safety issues; assisting in the setup and breakdown for hires, and events, for which flexible working arrangements may be required; maintaining accurate written/electronic records following any ad-hoc or cyclical checks; performing cleaning and litter picking tasks including the removal of flyposting and graffiti; responsibility for HVAC, electrical, plumbing, and fire safety across buildings; replenishing supplies and consumables; conducting highway inspections and reporting back accordingly.

Gardening duties will include: operating and maintaining grounds and horticultural equipment including hand tools, strimmers, hedge-cutters, blowers and more for cutting, clearing, weeding, and tidying where assigned.
