Full Job Description

The post requires knowledge of casework processes and policies, an understanding of the issues involved in the management of high profile cases,
The post holder is also responsible for the quality assurance of the work of the casework support team.
This role requires the ability to meet tight deadlines, organise and prioritise casework targets and establish good working relationships with staff and stakeholders. The post holder will have excellent communication skills in order to perform this role to a high level.
Responsibilities, Activities & Duties
The job holder will be required to carry out the following responsibilities, activities and duties:
+ Support the Head of Casework on defending judicial reviews brought by prisoners, liaising with legal advisers, Government Legal Department, and Counsel.
+ Prepare draft submissions, draft replies to PQs, press lines, Ministers cases and general correspondence in relation to casework
+ The post holder will need to liaise with numerous stakeholders in HMPPS / NPS and the wider MOJ, including prison and probation staff, policy colleagues and MOJ Legal Directorate
+ Personally manage reviews considering evidence, providing advice.
+ Represent the Service at case conferences with Counsel ensuring that the interests of the MOJ are protected
+ Act as a source of advice and assistance for colleagues
+ Personally manage a caseload that includes some high risk and occasionally high profile cases, ensuring that the reputation and interests of the Service are protected. Brief Senior Managers directly as required.
+ Responsible for signing off casework documents.
+ Engage with a range of business areas across the Service and in MOJ, raising litigation awareness and maintaining the good reputation of the Unit.
+ Ensure the case tracking system, is updated and accurate so as to enable accurate reports to be generated on numbers, outcomes and spend.
