Full Job Description

The successful candidate will become chaplain to Langdon hospital offering pastoral, spiritual, religious and cultural care to patients, staff and family / Carers., The Senior chaplain will supervise the chaplaincy team based in the hospital; both paid and volunteer chaplains.,

  • The primary role of the Langdon Senior Chaplain will be to be present on each of the wards on a weekly basis, building up a rapport with the patients and staff and responding to specific requests for support when they are received.
  • The senior chaplain will maintain a visible presence not only on the wards but also among the entire staff; supporting staff and teams as needs arise. They will represent the chaplaincy team at all relevant meetings and events. They will be responsible for writing reports etc. when requested.
  • The senior chaplain will lead the Langdon chaplaincy team, communicating with them regularly about new patients or situations that have arisen, as well as supervising both chaplains and volunteer chaplains.
  • The chaplain will be involved leading acts of worship, memorials or other services at Langdon when needed.
  • The chaplain will keep a watch over the multifaith room, updating and renewing materials as required.
  • The senior chaplain will play a full and active role in the wider chaplaincy team; attending team meetings, away days and other events as they arise., To deliver a chaplaincy service that offers direct support to patients, their carers and staff across all DPT wards on the Wonford Hospital site and to the headquarters.
  • To contribute to the development of this service to meet changing needs and to reflect best practice. Dealing with highly sensitive and challenging pastoral situations by offering spiritual, religious and pastoral care to distressed patients / clients, their carers and staff members regardless of religious affiliation on all Wonford site wards. Active involvement in the wider chaplaincy team and its various activities. Responding as requested to patients, their carers and other contacts, who are referred for care Line Managing Chaplaincy Volunteers based at Wonford and liaising with the Lead Chaplain as necessary Communicating highly sensitive or contentious information whilst seeking cooperation from others

  • Formal Theological qualification to post-graduate degree level or equivalent experience, Registered member of the UKBHC (UK Board of Healthcare Chaplaincy)
  • Registered member of the CHCC (College of Healthcare Chaplains), Working in a team offering pastoral care.
  • Working with people suffering from severe mental illness, an understanding of frameworks of support, along with understanding the boundaries that chaplains work within.
  • Supporting family members and carers of people suffering from mental illness.
  • Care of those coping with bereavement
  • Care and support of staff under pressure
  • Substantial experience of working in Healthcare chaplaincy
  • Substantial ministerial pastoral experience
  • Ability to lead services of worship in differing situations
