Full Job Description

We are seeking a Characterisation Consultant to support projects to characterise and decommission nuclear facilities and for small users across the UK. The role will be based at one of our company offices: Birchwood, Warrington or Harwell, Didcot; and support projects on sites across the UK. The role will require the successful candidate to:

  • Support the development of building history files;
  • Develop Sampling and Analysis Plans;
  • Create Data Quality Objectives (DQO) and Data Quality Assessment (DQA) reports;
  • Reviewing of analytical data, developing conclusions, and making recommendations;
  • Provision of advice to clients with respect to sampling methods and requirements, in order to meet project or regulatory assessment criteria;
  • Representing the DQO project team at client and regulatory meetings where necessary;
  • Analysis and development of radiological fingerprints;
  • Contributing to business development by supporting proposals/bids, delivering internal activities and seeking and implementing improvement initiatives and building on job opportunities;
  • Undertaking activities in support of continuous professional development;
  • Close working relationships with other sites and Client sites is required which necessitates regular travel to those sites (dependent upon project);
  • Liaise with sub-contractors;
  • Opportunity for development to be trained to perform health physics surveys (radiation and contamination);
  • Assist with maintaining / recording HP equipment and RPE/PPE;
  • Assist in the production of documentation such as methods statements, job reports and risk assessments.

    Experience in the Nuclear Industry
  • Driving Licence
  • Have a degree or equivalent (or working towards) in a relevant subject
  • Excellent technical report writing skills
  • Good knowledge of guidance and legislation relating to radioactive material
