Full Job Description

An exciting opportunity has risen within the medium secure unit, Sussex Partnership NHS foundation Trust at the Hellingly Centre. We are looking for a dynamic and highly motivated a Clinical Charge Nurse (Band 6) to join our team, Oak Ward.

We are a 15 bedded male admissions medium secure ward, focussed on assessment and treatment for patients with acute and complex mental health needs. We are a patient centred ward and provide a full activity programme, including both therapeutic groups and leisure activities. We are part of the wider provider collaborative network and we use secure recovery model as part of patients' recovery journey to set out a road map of guiding principles, practical and evidence-based strategies for promoting patient participation in their care and treatment.

We welcome applications from staff that are already on the NMC register with relevant experience. You will be working with a friendly and experienced healthcare professional / MDT within our team providing high quality care for all of our patients.

The successful candidate will be required to provide a patient centred care, oversee the day to day running of the wards and other hands-on nursing responsibilities. Someone whowill support the ward manager to lead the management of clinical and risk issues on the ward, emphasising relational security within the unit, such as providing patient choice, collaboration and transparency with a trauma informed care approach., As a Charge Nurse, your responsibilities will be to;

Uphold our core values of promoting openness, transparency and learning;

Provide leadership, mentorship and professional supervision to junior staff, and assessment of student nurses.

An effective clinical leader and role model with good delegation and supervisory abilities,

To understand the responsibilities of shift co-ordination, and to take responsibility for care delivery in a specific area for spans of duty, including maintaining a safe clinical environment.

Building relationships with patients to encourage trust, while listening to and interpreting their needs and concerns.

Offer support and supervise the practice of junior staff and student nurses in order to ensure safe and effective nursing practice within a secure environment.

Assist the Ward Manager in the effective operational management of a ward - by incorporating effective communication skills with conflict resolution.

Performing administrative duties. Involved in the screening, assessment and follow up support of patients.

Provide care and support to patients and families and work effectively as part of the wider Multidisciplinary team.

Work a flexible shift pattern which includes Long Days (07:00 - 19:30) and Nights (19:00 - 07:30) including weekends and bank holidays.

Conducting thorough assessments of risks and risk management plans to support incidents on the ward., The ward aims to promote recovery and rehabilitation with service users. There is a strong emphasis on service user involvement in their care and treatment as part of the secure recovery model. The successful candidate will be part of the team that actively encourage, and continue to develop practices which will support to facilitate this.

Oak ward is a 15 bedded ward that caters for male adults and is part of the forensic pathway. The pathway includes two medium secure male wards, one female medium secure ward and a low secure male ward. We support our service users on their individual pathways through an MDT approach. We are a motivated and responsive team managing an ever-changing environment.
