Full Job Description

  • You will work in the Sustainability (BBC News) team. This is an opportunity to work at the very heart of BBC News as we work towards our vision to become the greenest global broadcaster. The Sustainability in News team works to deliver and support a variety of sustainability-related initiatives, supporting the delivery of the BBC's green transition. More information on the team can be found in the placement section at the end of the job description. What will you be studying? You'll study for your industry recognised apprenticeship qualification, learning both on and off the job, covering areas such as operational strategy, project management and business finance. This involves studying for your BSc (Hons) degree in Management Practice and Maths and English if not previously achieved., This scheme starts in September 2025, and you will be on a fixed term contract which means your contract is for the duration of the apprenticeship only. The duration of this scheme is 42 months, Apprentices starting at BBC from September 2025 will be placed on a 'Fixed Term' contract. This means your contract is for the duration of your apprenticeship only.   • Are an enthusiastic self-starter, flexible and adaptable to out-of-hours working, By the start of the apprenticeship in September 2025, have lived in the UK or European Economic Area (EEA) for a minimum of 3 years.
  • Be eligible to work in the UK full time for the duration of the apprenticeship contract.
  • Not currently taking part in an apprenticeship scheme supported by the BBC or another organisation., Not have completed or hold qualifications in the apprenticeship subject, Business and/or Management at level 5 or higher.
  • Not be currently studying toward a qualification in apprenticeship subject, Business and/or Management at level 5 or higher.
  • To complete the apprenticeship, you must have achieved Maths and English GCSE at Grade 4/C or above or National 5 (Scotland) at C or Functional Skills Level 2 or equivalent qualification. If you have not achieved these qualifications by the start of your apprenticeship, you will be required to achieve Functional Skills Level 2 before the end of your apprenticeship when you take your end-point assessment.

The Sustainability in News team works to deliver and support a variety of sustainability-related initiatives across the entire division, supporting the delivery of the BBC's objectives aligned to our Science Based targets. Environmental and sustainability issues have long been reflected in the content we make and broadcast, so it's important to us that they are also embedded in the way we operate in BBC News. To deliver our objectives and support the wider media sector, we are working collaboratively with suppliers and creative peers, across the UK and beyond, to develop a sustainable industry on and off-screen. You will report into the Senior Sustainability Manager as well as work closely with other key stakeholders from BBC News, the BBC Group Sustainability team, and across the entire organisation, as well as our suppliers and other media/broadcast partners. This apprenticeship will place you right in the centre of BBC News as we work to meet objectives and reduce our carbon footprint, providing a chance to be involved in lasting change and support BBC News and the wider organisation adapt to a sustainable future.

  • A starting salary of £21,840 (+ £5,318 London Living Allowance)
