Full Job Description

The role of Chief of Staff plays a pivotal role in both the longer-term success and shorter-term performance of our business. This is a senior position within Deloitte Legal and the role holder will be an integral member of the Deloitte Legal Leadership Team with regular reporting responsibility to members of the Tax and Legal (T&L) Exec (plus other senior stakeholders). In a rapidly developing business, there is important work to do in articulating the overall strategy for Deloitte Legal and ensuring all our practitioners are aligned and committed to that shared ambition. The role holder will therefore work closely with the Managing Partner for Deloitte Legal to map out how the business is going to achieve our ambitions, aligned to Global, and have a clear roadmap that outlines our pathway to success. The role holder needs to be able to influence and persuade a broad range of people at every level to develop focus and create momentum to drive Deloitte Legal forward. Creating followship through empathy and support is critical along with the ability to listen, respond and be agile in the face of changing priorities. Outline of key responsibilities: Strategy

  • Work with Deloitte Legal Managing Partner and wider leadership group to articulate the overall vision, strategy and necessary tactical steps for Deloitte Legal to achieve our ambition to create a truly distinctive legal business and deliver on our financial goals. In doing so the UK strategy will be consistent with, and support the Global Deloitte Legal Strategy.
  • Ensure that the transformation roadmap to success for Deloitte Legal challenges the legal market, is externally disruptive, commercially focused and places Deloitte Legal as a leader in the provision of legal solution to the market.
  • Own, drive and be accountable for the overall delivery of the Deloitte Legal strategy alongside working closely with the DL Partners to capture the steps and actions needed to deliver on the strategy. You will need to ensure that the wider Deloitte partnership are bought into the strategy and the steps to achieve it, and work with them to ensure they are effectively delivering against it during their business activities and undertakings. In this regard, you will have a key role in holding DL Group Heads and other Partners to account regarding the delivery of their strategic ambitions and goals in line with the LTP.
  • There is a practical and real need to clearly articulate and break down the high-level Legal vision into a clear plan for internal and external implementation & execution. The role holder will work closely with the Managing Partner and leadership team build out their plans and then to drive accountability. Together with the Legal Managing Partner, Senior Partner and COO, you will be asked to regularly report the T&L Executive on progress against the Legal strategy, in addition to providing regular updates to other senior stakeholders. Operations The role holder will play a key role in driving the effective operation of the practice for Deloitte Legal. The focus here will be on identifying, developing and leading on activities making Deloitte an easier place for lawyers to do business/ be successful/navigate and share best practice back to Tax. This will include, but may not limited to:
  • The creation of effective Deloitte Legal Communications (Internal and, in conjunction with Growth and wider firm/branding, External)
  • Working with the wider Partner group, BUFCs, and COO/Finance community to ensure good overall financial hygiene
  • With the Growth team, working towards ensuring effective pipeline management via Jupiter and ensuring this is fed into forward looking financial forecasting
  • Working with QRM to ensure that Deloitte Legal's risk profile is being appropriately managed and that Independence/Conflict Checks are undertaken effectively and in line with Deloitte Policies. Oversee the broader ESS - Take On process via ServiceNow to ensure an effective service from the Delivery Centres
  • Working with the Deloitte Legal central team (and support functions including HR, CBS, Finance) to maintain and enhance the operational effectiveness of the business
  • Monitor Partner Performance and raise issues and observations with the DL Managing Partner/COO
  • Ensure alignment between the Operational Management of Deloitte Legal and the overall Deloitte Legal Strategy.

    Experience of helping businesses build, grow and make an impact in the market
  • Experience and understanding of the Legal Industry, including the broader commercial, talent and regulatory landscape is desirable, however not mandatory.
  • Experience in managing and delivering projects or initiatives and running multiple projects and workstreams
  • Willingness to learn and understand sector nuances around heart of business issues, sector dynamics, global economics and how the industry impacts and is impacted by the global economy
  • Strong leadership and decision making including managing programmes/projects successfully and navigating our organisation
  • Exceptional relationship building capabilities, including ability to coordinate across many constituents and to interact and interface with all levels, especially with leadership
  • Strong Business partnership, team working and collaboration
  • Effective organisation and time management skills
  • Operational and transformation programme management with proven ability to manage multiple activities at one time
