We have an exciting opportunity to join the Lockheed Martin team in Havant, Hampshire as a Chief Safety Engineer. You will work across the business as the person responsible for safety engineering on our many and varied programmes as well as future capabilities, which we want you to help shape. These range from safety engineering for a number of helicopter platforms, fixed wing aircraft, autonomous air vehicles and maritime platforms. You'll be the leader of the business transformation of our safety culture. You will primarily be home based with occasional travel to the Havant and Yeovil offices and our customer site in Crawley, Bristol and Culdrose. This would really suit you If you have a background in Aerospace, particularly rotary wing, and are considered an expert in your field. You will experience a wide range of engineering activities including:

  • Being accountable for leading product safety and leading and managing the work of the product safety team
  • Defining and maintaining a product safety culture across all LM UK RMS business areas, appreciating that product safety decisions have to underwrite LM UKIS's obligations under DAOS/AAOS certification
  • Providing technical leadership and direction with respect to safety programmes on the portfolio of LM UK programmes
  • Implementing, co-ordinating and conducting programme safety and environmental related activities in accordance with company procedures in a rigorous and effective manner
  • Owning and fully maintaining all product safety management processes
  • Reviewing, approving and accepting flight approval and safety documentation
  • Providing safety support and expertise to new business proposals as required
  • Representing LM UK at both Senior level, Customer and Major Sub-contractor technical review boards and meetings
  • Reviewing and accepting vendor Engineering Change Proposals
  • Preparing engineering resource budget estimates for product safety activities
  • Leading safety design efforts of Bespoke Aerospace Software/Hardware interfaces and systems
  • Establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with clients and suppliers across all levels of the organisation both internally and with the customer
  • Any additional Programme related tasks assigned that are within area of expertise, competence and skill set.

    Recent, relevant experience of implementation of safety programmes in a prime contractor/systems integration environment.
  • Working and current knowledge of:
  • UK and EU safety related legislation (e.g. Health and Safety at Work Act)
  • Environmental legislation and management systems (e.g. ISO14001 etc.)
  • Defence and commercial safety standards such as Def Stan 00-056, Def-Stan 00-055, Mil Std 882, IEC61508, DSA02
  • Project Oriented Safety Management System (POSMS)
  • Project Oriented Environmental Management System (POEMS)
  • Safety Case development using the Adelard Safety Case Editor (ASCE)
  • Hazard Management using eCassandra
  • Event Tree and Fault Tree development using Reliability Work Bench
