Full Job Description

As a metabolic clinical nurse specialist, you will liaise and co-ordinate the care for patients with inherited metabolic disorders. You will be expected to work alongside the consultants and wider multi-professional team through the attendance at MDT meetings and through co-ordinating and attending speciality clinics. You will be an advocate for the patient and their family, discussing treatment and surveillance plans with them and supporting them to understand the treatment pathway. You will be expected to work without supervision. The role includes working collaboratively with Nottingham Children's Hospital, in addition to supporting the District General Hospitals across the East Midlands to ensure our patients receive high quality care.

The Leicester Metabolic Service is undergoing an exciting period of expansion. We are seeking a dynamic individual who is interested in working in a specialist and learning-rich environment, who can demonstrate compassion and empathy for our children, young people and their families. The successful candidates will be joining an expanding multi-professional team as we begin to collaborate with Nottingham to form the East Midland's Paediatric Metabolic Service. If you would like to work in a friendly environment and are motivated and enthusiastic about making a difference to the care of patients with inherited metabolic disorders, we would like to hear from you!, We are one of the biggest and busiest NHS trusts in the country, incorporating the General, Glenfield and Royal Infirmary hospitals. We have our very own Children's Hospital and run one of the country's leading heart centres. Our team is made up of more than 17,000 staff providing a range of services primarily for the one million residents of Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland. We work with partners at the University of Leicester and De Montfort University providing world-class teaching to nurture and develop the next generation of doctors, nurses and other healthcare professionals, many of whom go on to spend their working lives with us. Our purpose is to provide 'Caring at its best' and our staff have helped us create a set of values that embody who we are and what we're here to do. They are:

  • We focus on what matters most
  • We treat others how we would like to be treated
  • We are passionate and creative in our work
  • We do what we say we are going to do
  • We are one team and we are best when we work together
  • Our patients are at the heart of all we do and we believe that 'Caring at its best' is not just about the treatments and services we provide, but about giving our patients the best possible experience.
