Children's Senior Designer

We are looking for an experienced children's non-fiction book designer with a strong creative vision to work on our award-winning list.

You will collaborate closely with the editorial team and the Children's Art Director to design and help manage our expanding list of non-fiction, picture, novelty and activity books.

You will enjoy the process of creating outstanding covers and layouts alongside discovering, commissioning and nurturing illustration talent.

Amongst other tasks, you will be:

- Interpreting briefs and producing creative and effective designs for the target age group

- Driving projects through all stages of design from initial brief to final print

- Shaping new development ideas

- Ensuring artwork is set up flawlessly, with files suitable for co-editions

- Working closely with the Production team to coordinate reprographic work

Expert in Adobe CC suite

- Excellent problem-solving skills

- The ability to transform text supplied by an editor into an appealing visual book layout

- Confident in communicating ideas within the creative team

- Proven ability to roughly sketch and plot out ideas prior to commissioning an illustrator

- Experience discovering and commissioning new and established illustrators

- A flexible and adaptable approach to feedback

- Ability to multitask and manage new development leading up to a book fair

- Solid working experience of the printing process and cover finishes

- Excellent artworking skills to provide print ready files

- An awareness of current design trends and approaches in children's publishing
