Full Job Description

The position is an Anywhere Worker role with the expectation the successful worker will attend County Hall, Chelmsford 2 - 3 days per month. To read more about our business area, please visit: Corporate Services The Opportunity The Insurance & Risk team are responsible for all insurance and risk based matters, focused on supporting the council's service delivery and commissioned services. Providing oversight and assurance that effective and appropriate insurance arrangements are in place and managers, across the Council, are supported to effectively manage strategic risks. The Claims Handler will assist in delivering an efficient and effective claim handling service and ensuring all claims are dealt with in determined timescales. Educated to Level 3 with experience in handling liability claims. This role will understand customer needs in order to deliver excellent customer service. Experience of research or carrying out investigations is also key to this role. Accountabilities

  • Support the delivery of an effective claims handling service, working to drive reductions in cost and the risk of claims.
  • Responsible for handling claims from cradle to grave, setting up new claims and undertaking timely investigations to determine liability and quantum, in accordance with determined timeframes and standards laid out in the Civil Procedure Rules.
  • Responsible for gathering evidential documentation to support effective claims handling and enable compliance with the relevant disclosure requirements.
  • Provides regular update reports to the Liability Claims Team Leader on the position of claims.
  • Assists in providing information to the Liability Claims Team Leader for responses to freedom of information requests.
  • Works across the Insurance & Risk team to provide claims handling support as required in the absence of insurance colleagues.
  • Specific individual and shared targets and objectives are defined annually within the performance management framework.

    Experience in handling liability claims, with knowledge of relevant legislation and protocols.
  • Evidence of maintaining current knowledge with regard to relevant regulations, legislation and case law.
  • Ability to build good working relationships which encourage collaboration and deliver excellent customer service.
  • Experience of carrying out research or investigations and good negotiating skills.
  • Educated to Level 3 (e.g. A level) or equivalent experience.
  • Evidence of continuing professional development and knowledge of relevant professional area.
