Full Job Description

Hours of Work: 25 hours per week by arrangement, including attendance at evening meetings

Commencing Salary: NJC Scale 29-32 (Currently £37,336 to £40,221 pro-rata hourly rate £19.41- £20.90)

Location: Melton Parish Office, 17 Riduna Park, Station Road, Melton, Woodbridge IP12 1QT

Responsible to: Chair of Finance, Employment & Risk Management Working Group on behalf of Full Council

Responsible for: The administration of all the functions of Melton Parish Council including those of the Proper Officer and Responsible Finance Officer

Probationary Period: 6 months

Notice Period: 13 weeks on either side

Melton Parish Council is seeking an organised and self-motivated person to be responsible for the day-to-day management of the Parish Council. This large village on the River Deben immediately to the north of Woodbridge has an annual turnover of around £200k. It has carried out infrastructure projects worth £500k in the last three years.

The duties include overall responsibility for administration, supervision of two staff members, finances, governance and management of land and property, as well as providing advice and support to Council decision-making.

The successful candidate will demonstrate:

  • Experience of governance and finance
  • Good people management skills
  • Sound business skills
  • An understanding of the ethos of public service, together with the need for accountability and community involvement
  • An understanding and experience of planning law and policy is beneficial
  • CILCA qualification or a willingness to work towards would be an advantage
