Full Job Description

The governors of Thames Ditton Infant School and Ember Learning Trust wish to appoint a highly organised and self-motivated clerk. This is a unique and exciting opportunity to support our Governing Bodies in the strategic management and development of our schools.

We are part of the Ember Learning Trust, a co-operative partnership of four local schools that work closely together for the benefit of pupils within all of the schools. The Ember Learning Trust Schools are located close to one another around Thames Ditton; a delightful village in North-East Surrey.

The clerk is accountable to the governing body, and will work closely with the Chairs of Governors, Headteacher, School Business Manager and other Governors. They will ensure the smooth running of the governing body: preparing agendas and meeting papers, taking and distributing minutes, following up on actions from meetings, giving administrative support, keeping records and up to date information on policies and date of reviews, and providing procedural and legislative advice to the governing board. They must have excellent organisational, communication and ICT skills.

Training and updates will be provided to broaden the successful applicant's professional development as a clerk.

This is a part time and term time only role. The clerk will be expected to attend eight full governing board (FGB) meetings and approximately six committee meetings per school year. Committee meetings and FGB meetings are normally held before school hours or in evenings. In addition to this, the role will include attending and note-taking at the Ember Learning Trust Meetings - these are once a term. Regarding other hours worked, this role will work on a flexible basis so the successful candidate must be able to organise their own time and work to the strict deadlines of each school. The clerk is also expected to attend all relevant training events and briefings.

The clerk is paid through the schools' payroll for hours worked. Estimated hours for the current year total approximately 300 hours including time attended at meetings.

Visits to the school are warmly welcomed and can be arranged by contacting the relevant school office or alternatively the role could be discussed with one of our Chair of Governors.
