Full Job Description

This is a stand-alone position that reports directly to the Chair of Corporate Board. The main purpose of this role is to ensure that high standards of governance are maintained, through the provision of expert independent advice, guidance and support to Corporate Board. This includes matters relating to: statutory requirements; the operation of its powers; the conduct of its business and compliance with the Code of Good Governance for English Colleges.

The successful candidate will be responsible for administrative activities such as meeting planning, developing Board agendas, and producing minutes and action plans, whilst also liaising directly with senior staff members and members of Corporate Board on a range of regulatory and constitutional issues.

It is essential that applicants have a minimum of a level 3 qualification in a relevant area, relevant governance qualification or be willing to complete this within 2 years of appointment and have relevant professional experience in a comparable role.

Applicants will also be reliable, be able to work flexible hours and be available for all Corporate Board and Committee meetings and events. The successful candidate will have excellent minute-taking and IT skills, and be adept at building relationships at all levels in order to facilitate desired outcomes. Ideally you will have a good understanding of the legal and policy framework within which a further education college operates and be able to advise colleagues with knowledge and confidence. Ideally candidates will be a member of the Chartered Governance Institute.

This role will include responsibilities within safeguarding and the postholder will be engaging in regulated activity.
