Shropshire Council declared a climate emergency in May 2019 and adopted a Climate Strategy andAction Plan, which establishes the objective of achieving net-zero carbon performance for theCouncil by 2030 and the Climate Change Task Force has been established to lead our response to thischallenge.Climate change is being embedded as a key consideration in the Council's strategies and corporategovernance systems. Considering the impact of our activities on the climate has been adopted as oneof the eight organisation principles for the council.You will work with colleagues in the Climate Task Force and across all Council departments to leadthe delivery of the Council's Climate Change Strategy and Action Plan, communicating orally and inwriting on a wide range of complex and potentially contentious issues to different audiencesincluding professionals, Councillors, Local Councils, communities, stakeholders, and residents.

You will have extensive knowledge and experience of the climate challenges for the Council ourpartners and stakeholders and how you can influence others on the benefit of making changes now thatcan have a huge impact in the future and how our policies and strategies need to be aligned tothese.You will have experience of structured project management leading and supporting the delivery ofsome of our groundbreaking projects including Maesbury Solar Farm and two Pyrolysis treatmentplants.Analysing and interpreting complex information, and presenting these in a format that is understoodto inform decision making will also essential.

  • Pay Negotiations Position 2024/25:Earlier this year, the Trade Unions who are part of the collective bargaining arrangements (UNISON,GMB and Unite) for Local Government Pay submitted a pay claim on behalf of all local governmentemployees, regardless of whether they are in the Trade Union or not.The National Employers responded to this pay claim with a final offer for 2024/25. In summary theoffer for those staff on National Joint Council (NJC) terms and conditions is for an increase of: 1. With effect from 1 April 2024, £1,290 (pro rata for part-time employees) to be paid as a consolidated, permanent addition on all NJC pay points 2 to 43 inclusive (Grade 1, SCP2 to Band 13, SCP 43). 2. With effect from 1 April 2024, an increase of 2.50% on all pay points (pro rata for part-time staff) above SCP 43, those on Band 14 and 15. 3. With effect from 1 April 2024 an increase of 2.50% on allowances.The offer is subject to agreement.
