Full Job Description
The Clinical Audit Officer will report to the Senior Clinical Audit Officer. On certain assignments, the post holder might have to report to the Business Manager and Quality Manager and Data Analyst. The quality team manages Trust quality assurance processes and functions, such as the Care Quality Commission (CQC) inspection process, clinical audit and effectiveness, Tendable, Trust policies, NICE guidance, Quality Priorities and annual Quality Account, Quality Committee and Clinical Quality Review Group administration. The role will involve implementation of the annual trust wide clinical audit program and providing specialised advice and support on clinical audit to all professional groups. The post holder will have to develop and manage systems and processes to support and facilitate clinical audit activity. In particular to:
- Design audit projects within the broad framework of the audit, agree milestones and deadlines for the delivery of the programme.
- Conduct clinical audits to the agreed annual workplan
- Produce clinical audit reports which are easily digestible and contain clear and succinct findings, conclusions and recommendations.
- Facilitating/undertaking service improvement activity when indicated
- Provide a key link between the corporate audit department and the audit programs in directorates/Clinical Academic Groups.

- Undertake clinical audit projects as directed by the Head of Quality to support delivery of the Trustwide audit Developing systems for prioritising requests for clinical audit support in response to local issues and in line with the Trustwide audit programme deadlines
- To ensure the effective provision of specialist support and advice to health professionals on the key principles of critically appraising literature, clinical audit methodologies, database design and data analysis, ethical considerations when undertaking audit and the relationship between audit and other strands of clinical governance
- Produce clinical audit reports which are easily digestible, and contain clear and succinct findings, conclusions and recommendations and able to produce simple MS PowerPoint summaries of each audit report and to deliver presentations to relevant
- To ensure that a system is in place to record and follow up recommendations and action plans at the end of clinical audit projects to ensure implementation of changes
- Responsible for communicating and disseminating clinical audit results and recommendations for changes in practice and facilitate clinical teams to act on these to enable continuous quality improvement. This may entail motivating negotiating and persuading staff groups/teams.
- Produce regular Clinical Audit newsletters for the Trust which includes key findings and messages from the audit and effectiveness Arrange audit feedback meetings open to all staff to present feedback on Trust wide audit projects. Develop the Trusts web pages of clinical audit activity
- Provide basic and advanced training to staff on clinical audit.
- Ensure appropriate mechanisms for the involvement of users within the formulation of the clinical audit programme and to actively facilitate user input into Trustwide audit.
