Full Job Description

We are seeking applications for the role of Deputy Manager in the Clinical Coding Department. This will initially be a fixed term secondment opportunity for months, with the view to make the post substantive if the fixed term identifies a continuing need for the role. The Coding Deputy Manager will support the Clinical Coding Service Manager, Data Assurance and Audit and Improvement Leads in the management of the clinical coding team ensuring agreed timescales audit and data quality standards are met at all times. More detail about the role As an Accredited Clinical Coder and a current staff member of the Clinical Coding department your responsibilities will include :

  • Day to day support and management of the senior coders, coders and trainee coders alongside the established management infrastructure. To include management and monitoring of sickness, annual leave, rostering and flexitime.
  • Performance management responsibilities to ensure volume and accuracy targets are met and undertaking 1 : 1 discussions as required.
  • Responsible for ensuring outstanding coding episodes are completed within agreed timescales which will involve monitoring & managing the workqueues to ensure no episodes are left outstanding at flex & freeze. Liaise with Coders, data quality, clinical staff and EPR staff to resolve or escalate to Clinical Coding Service Manager any still outstanding.
  • Deputise for Clinical Coding Service Manager at meetings during absence to maintain a clinical coding presence.
  • To represent the department at meetings to address coding issues and to assist in the development of the coding process to further the effectiveness and efficiency of the coding department.
  • Support the departmental collaboration between Clinical Engagement, Audit, Training and Data Assurance.
  • Continue to hold a coding workload as required
  • Applicants will be required at interview to deliver a 5 minute Power Point presentation on the subject of Clinical Coding in an area of your choice. Working Pattern : Monday - Friday , hours per day, preferred hours are approx. 8-4 but for the right candidate we can discuss a more flexible approach
