Full Job Description
To apply for this post you must be an Accredited Clinical Coder.
The post holder will be responsible for the delivery of Clinical Coding services within the Trust including those undertaken in conjunction with clinical staff. The post holder will be required to deliver coding within the overall coding cycle and represent the coding team by working with CBU service teams and other colleagues. This will include clinical coding advice guidance and interpretation, and review audit and validation of records on a regular basis.
Additional £1,500 R&R payment, + To participate in the Internal Clinical Coding Validation Programme within the Trust. + As an ACC qualified professional, you must have the ability to communicate clearly and with confidence, offer advice and solutions, demonstrate empathy, leadership, attention to detail, reliability and business acumen related to Clinical Coding
+ Monitor data quality and clinical coding standards in line with local and national guidelines. Report any complex coding issues as directed for verification and/or resolution with NHS Digital. Follow up all responses with relevant staff
+ To be responsible for uncoded finished consultant episodes for all specialties and delegate workload to ensure coding targets are met. To work autonomously without direct instruction or supervision when self- allocating work and achievement of daily coding targets. Assist the Clinical Coding Manager in achieving month end coding completion targets
+ Plan and prioritise own workload on a daily basis.
+ Plan staff rotation
+ Provide mentorship to more junior members of staff when required
+ Demonstrate effective organisational and time management skills with the ability to work independently and as part of a team. Work flexibly across specialties. Be highly motivated and lead by example with the ability to motivate other team members
+ To be responsible for abstracting and analysing complicated patient clinical records applying the clinical coding rules and conventions, using own judgement to translate cases. Inputting of data onto the Clinical Information System (Expanse) for all inpatient and day case episodes within the timescales agreed between the trust and its' user organisations
+ Routinely extract pathology/histology/radiology information from IT systems to enhance the accuracy of coded data.
+ Work on own initiative in collecting information by whatever means required. Occasionally this could include entering very specific areas of the Trust e.g ITU, HDU wards etc, Exercise diplomacy and confidentiality in pursuit of collecting this data.

Alder Hey Children's NHS Foundation Trust is a provider of specialist health care and has a presence in community outreach sites and, in collaboration with other providers, our clinicians help deliver care closer to patients' homes by holding local clinics at locations from Cumbria to Shropshire, in Wales and the Isle of Man. The Trust also provides inpatient care for children with complex mental health needs at our Sunflower House building newly relocated, and opened on the hospital site., Alder Hey has been officially accredited as a HIMSS Stage 7 hospital and is now working through a strategy refresh. Alongside this the Trust are upgrading their Electronic Patient Record (Meditech) to the latest version available, maximising our investment in core clinical systems to ensure our staff have the best tools available when providing patient care.
Liverpool Heart and Chest has been officially as a HIMSS Stage 6 hospital and have recently become part of the Digital Aspirant scheme, which helps NHS Trusts raise their Digital Maturity. The Trust has also recently commissions the Digital Excellence Strategy, a 5-year programme to deliver digital initiatives enabling a wide range of benefits. The 3 core themes that underpin the strategy are 'Connecting Digitally with our Patients and Families', 'Digital Safety and Outstanding Care' and 'Insight Led Care', all underpinned by a 'back to basics' service improvement plan.
