Full Job Description

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a skilled community Clinical/Counselling Psychologist to work in our Maternal Mental Health Service (MMHS), Maple.
The Maple Service is for women whose trauma symptoms have a moderate to severe impact on their mental health. This may be due to a traumatic birth experience, pregnancy loss, neonatal death or the loss of a baby as a result of social care procedures due to safeguarding concerns. The trauma may also exist prior to conception, e.g. when tokophobia prevents a woman from achieving a wanted pregnancy.
The service is designed to address some of the service gap in perinatal mental health services. Maple is supported by and works alongside specialist midwives and the Specialist Perinatal Mental Health Service, (SPMHS). Although there may be overlap in service user population between Maple and SPMHS, women can be accepted by Maple without being pregnant or having their baby with them and fathers/partners are also eligible for the service.
This post is a one year, fixed term, maternity cover role, based in Maple East, working with service users living in Enfield & Haringey. The team base is located in N9 7HD., The post holder will carry a complex caseload and ensure the formulation of profession-specific, specialist care/treatment plans which provide specialist interventions and care to service users with complex trauma/mental health conditions. They will be supervised by an 8a Clinical Psychologist in the Maple service. The post holder will ensure that Maple operates to the requirements of the service operational policy and service line strategy and that safe, evidence based, NICE concordant, effective, culturally competent care is delivered in a timely manner to service users.
The post holder will actively contribute to the planning, development and evaluation of the MMHS using clinical leadership skills and knowledge to provide training and consultancy in clinical psychology within the trauma focussed specialty of perinatal mental health. Establishing and consolidating secure working relationships and pathways with other colleagues and services (e.g., IAPT and PIPS in addition to those mentioned above) is key., The post holder will deliver assessment, intervention and consultation which may include:
Individual or group evidence-based psychological therapy e.g.
+ Trauma focussed Cognitive Behavioural Therapy
+ Narrative Exposure Therapy
+ Eye Movement Desensitization & Reprocessing (EMDR)
+ Compassion Focussed Therapy
Specialist advice, training, consultation and co-working with referrers and related health professionals
Specialist liaison with colleagues in the maternity pathway, (obstetricians/gynaecologists, midwives, health visitors).
The post holder will work as part of the larger perinatal psychology service alongside other Maple clinicians and have links with the Clinical Psychology team in the SPMHS. There are many opportunities of career development and further training. We have externally facilitated EMDR group supervision.
