Full Job Description

Practice autonomously and be self-directed.

- Undertake assessment of individuals using a range of different assessment methods, including physical examination, ordering and interpreting diagnostic tests or advanced health needs assessment.

- Draw on a diverse range of knowledge in their decision making to determine evidence based therapeutic interventions; this will include prescribing medication and actively monitoring the effectiveness of therapeutic interventions.

- Actively seek and participate in peer review of their own practice.

- Appropriately define the boundaries of their practice.

- Provide professional leadership by personal example and ensure the delivery of a high quality patient centred service across endoscopy services.

- Promote and participate in the implementation of the GHNHSFT Nursing & Midwifery strategy and Core Standards and contribute towards achieving the Trust's Objectives.

- To assist with development of patient focused services, providing professional and clinical role modelling to all staff groups in both the Endoscopy Unit and Hospital.

- To undertake endoscopic procedures (with informed consent having due regard to patient safety and safe use of equipment).

- To remove polyps independently (recognise and appropriate).

- Identify abnormalities and act according to protocols suggesting appropriate further investigations within agreed criteria.

The Endoscopy team are delighted to invite applications for the post of Clinical Endoscopist to join our established team of advanced practitioners delivering endoscopic investigations and interventions. You will ideally be educated to Masters Level, with extensive experience in endoscopy, JAG accredited in Upper and Lower GI procedures, polypectomy, and additionally have a non-medical prescribing qualification. Our preferred candidate will be dynamic, dexterous, experienced, open, and confident to make decisions based on a sound up to date evidence base. You must be able to demonstrate both technical and non technical skills in managing a list safely, making decisions under pressure and co-ordinating care.

Working alongside our internationally renowned Endoscopists you will be a key part of the team providing diagnostic and therapeutic upper and lower endoscopies. The Trust boasts two purpose built Endoscopy Units with onsite bespoke decontamination areas. At Cheltenham General Hospital the unit houses four theatre suites and at Gloucestershire Royal Hospital, three theatre suites, with plans for expansion in the future. Endoscopy lists also take place at Stroud and Cirencester Hospitals. You will be expected to travel to all sites as part of your role.
