Full Job Description

The post-holder will be expected to have a wide range of experience in Obstetrics & Gynaecology and at least 5 years' experience at Specialist Registrar level or equivalent level. Clinical fellows will be expected to provide active medical input into the care of women in the hospital. The holder will be expected to take an active part in the pre-operative and post-operative management of gynaecological oncology patients., The unit offers wide experience and supervised training in all aspects of Obstetrics and Gynaecology with excellent opportunities in a friendly supportive department. There are dedicated specialist clinics in both obstetrics and gynaecology in addition the unit offers a range of RCOG Advanced training modules (ATSMs) for advanced trainees., The post will be as a full-time at Middle Grade level to support the gynaecological oncology services in the West Kent Cancer Centre (WKCC). Duties will include Gynae-oncology outpatient clinics, Gynae-oncology ward rounds, one-stop outpatient clinics, Colposcopy clinic, inpatient and outpatient operating sessions. The post will involve care of gynae-oncology patients in close liaison with Gynaecological Oncology Consultants and sub-speciality nurses. Competence is required in labour ward management, emergency Obstetrics and gynaecology.

Communication and inter-personal skills are very important in this post and the post-holder will be expected to exhibit the highest possible standards in communication with patients, their families, consultants, junior medical staff midwives and nurses since multi-professional team-working forms the foundation of our patient focussed service
· To provide a high standard of care to any patient for whom you have clinical responsibility. This will include any patients cared for by you personally.
· To participate in clinical and other service activities and developments with the aim of ensuring a high standard of patient care.
· To participate fully in the clinical governance activities of the specialty. To attend clinical governance. To participate actively in departmental audits which may be included in the work you undertake.
· To work in close co-operation with other medical, professional and managerial colleagues, both within and outside the specialty, to provide high quality health care to the Trust's patients, and to contribute to future thinking about the Trust's strategic direction.
· To ensure at all times that you comply with the General Medical Council's published guide "Good Medical Practice" including the Duties of a Doctor.
· To take personal responsibility for risk management in your work and undertake to review practices and learn from mistakes. To be an active member of the risk management processes of the clinical team and care group.
· To ensure that you respond promptly and efficiently to all complaints related to any patient care you have been involved with, assisting the Trust's corporate responsibility to reply to complaints within a specified time frame.
· To ensure that you develop and maintain effective working relationships with those agencies concerned with the provision of health and social care services and those representing the interests of patients.
· You are required to take reasonable care for the health and safety of yourself and others who may be affected by what you do while at work. You must adhere to Trust IRMER Regulations.

Applicants are invited to apply for the post of Clinical Fellow in Gynaecology Oncology at the Maidstone Hospital. This is a 6 months post, with option of extending to 12 months post The post is ideal for 'Out of Program Experience' (OOPE) for a Specialty Registrar (ST5 and above) or equivalent.
Maidstone Hospital is a regional Cancer Centre for gynae-oncology serving the population of West Kent. The post will provide comprehensive training in gynaecological surgery, exposure to advanced laparoscopic procedures and novel techniques such as sentinel node dissection. Candidate will also have exposure to Colposcopy and Rapid Access Clinics. In addition, the post holder will participate in the second on-call Middle Grade Rota for General Obstetrics & Gynecology if required.
The post provides the opportunity for training in line with the curricula towards completion of Gynaecology-oncology ATSM approved by the RCOG if the candidate has MRCOG part 2 and ST5 grade or above.
Possession of MRCOG part 2 or equivalent is essential. The candidate must have full GMC Registration. The post holder will be expected to take part in research and clinical trails. The Obstetrics & Gynaecology department in the Trust has its services based on the two main hospital sites at new Tunbridge Wells Hospital in Pembury and Maidstone Hospital. The new Tunbridge Wells hospital opened in Jan 2011 with the amalgamation of maternity units at Maidstone and Pembury hospital in Sept 2011. It is the first NHS hospital in England with 100% en-suite single rooms for inpatients. The projected annual delivery rate is about 6000 deliveries and a level two neonatal unit supports it. The trust has a midwifery led low risk unit based on the Maidstone hospital site.
