Full Job Description

To be part of the cardiology service at Harefield Hospital in collaboration with medical and surgical colleagues and other departments and services.

Participate in new patient and follow-up consultant-led outpatient clinics.

Provide inpatient services to cardiology patients.

Participate in an on-call rota covering inpatient activity and emergency work.

Supervise and train junior staff allocated to cardiology.

To work as a full member of the multi-disciplinary team, including participation in the rota and the attendance and presentation at weekly MDTs and meetings.

To undertake regular ward rounds to ensure effective management during the in-patient stay and early discharge of patients whenever possible.

Participate in audit within the department.

Participate fully in the service and training programme of the Division.

Perform routine transthoracic echocardiography, routine right and left cardiac catheterisation and perform and interpret echocardiograms, To be part of the cardiology service at Harefield Hospital in collaboration with medical and surgical colleagues and other departments and services.

  • Full GMC registration with a licence to practice

  • MBBS, or equivalent

  • MRCP, or equivalent

    Experience

    Essential
  • Minimum of 3 years of cardiology training with basic knowledge and practical experience of echocardiography, diagnostic coronary angiography, acute coronary care and treatment of heart failure

  • Practical skills : vascular access, right and left heart catheterisation and coronary angiography

  • Experience in cardiac pacing / ICDs and / or cardiac electrophysiology

  • Teaching experience ( medical students and junior doctors)


  • Desirable

    Advanced life support training (ALS or equivalent),
  • Advanced knowledge of cardiovascular disease, with specific interest in cardiac arrhythmias.

  • Proficient and efficient in handling medical problems

  • Good interpersonal and communications skills

    The Heart Division provides a comprehensive service for the investigation and treatment of cardiac disease. The Division is sub-divided into clinical sections with sub-speciality interests in Revascularisation, Structural Heart Disease, Heart Failure, Electrophysiology, Heart Assessment and Adult Congenital Heart Disease.


  • Harefield Hospital houses 4 catheter laboratories : an additional 600 EP / ablation procedures are performed annually in two state-of-the-art EP / device catheterisation laboratories;

    Harefield also functions as one of the busiest heart attack centres in the UK. Both sites run busy cardiac device services, including pacemakers, ICDs, cardiac resynchronisation therapy, leadless devices and conduction system pacing, with significant expertise in laser lead extraction.

    This is a Trust appointment and will be predominantly based at Harefield Hospital (Uxbridge, UB9 6JH) . The post holder may be required to work at the other Trust sites on an intermittent basis, by mutual arrangement
