Do you want to be a cardiologist? An exciting opportunity has arisen for the successful applicant(s) to join the dynamic, award winning cardiology team in the Channel Island of Jersey as Clinical Fellow in Cardiology. This position is ideal for those early in their medical or cardiology career (post FY2 or CMT) who wish to gain a year of clinical, practical and academic experience in cardiology, whilst benefiting from the lifestyle advantages that Jersey offers. The position is also perfectly suited for doctors studying for the MRCP., The in-hospital role will include the assessment and review of cardiac patients under the care of other medical teams, peri-operative care of patients undergoing non-cardiac surgery and review and advice on patients in the Enhanced Care Area and Intensive Care Unit. Early patient investigation and discharge will be an expected outcome.

There will be sessions in outpatient cardiology clinics and functional testing clinics as well as the opportunity to be trained and participate in aero-medical transfers. Experience can be gained in echocardiography and CT coronary angiography. Development of cardiac guidelines and clinical pathways will be encouraged. The cardiology department has a strong academic history and participation in clinical audit, research and teaching is essential.

Time will be set aside for administrative duties including signing letters, dictation of discharge letters for general practitioners (GPs), reporting cardiac investigations and answering enquiries from GPs., The Clinical Fellow in Cardiology is a core member of the Jersey Heart Team. The post provides training and experience in acute and chronic cardiac disease, the investigation and management of a variety of heart conditions as well as experience in clinical audit and research. The fellow post is ideal for someone interested in pursuing a cardiology career or for a doctor who wants to gain high quality cardiology skills to take into a hospital medical role, emergency department or anaesthetic post. The post-holder would be expected to carry out duties expected of a core trainee doctor and will act as a medical point of contact for the cardiac nurse specialists and clinical physiologists, managing patients with long-term cardiac conditions. Depending on requirements there may be the ability for the post-holder to take part in the evening and weekend on-call rota for Clinical Fellows in Acute Medicine.

Under Jersey Law, applicants must possess FULL registration with the General Medical Council and hold a license to practice.

The cardiology service is based at Jersey General Hospital and the Jersey Heart Team was chosen as finalist in the BMJ 2016 Cardiology Team of the Year awards. The post-holder will join our multi-disciplinary team of doctors and specialist nurses led by two dynamic Consultant Cardiologists. The department has a dedicated Digital Health Research unit, a strong academic track record and links with Oxford University Hospitals.
