Full Job Description

The post will be based at the Royal Sussex County Hospital. We have about 5400 deliveries at UHSussex per year, across both sites and our service provides the obstetric support for the Trevor Mann Baby Unit which is the regional tertiary neonatal unit. Hence the applicant will have clinical exposure to high risk obstetrics and particularly the management of severely preterm pregnancies.
The applicant will also have the opportunity to maintain their gynaecology clinical skills both within the on call duties and elective gynaecology. The department is also a Gynae-oncology Centre, an accredited centre of excellence for the treatment of endometriosis and a specialist uro - gynaecology service., This is a fixed term post with opportunity for extension, which aims to provide the appointee with obstetrics and gynaecology training. This post also have opportunity to gain experience in minimal access surgery and open benign gynaecology surgery including operative laparoscopic surgeries, laparoscopic hysterectomy, abdominal hysterectomy and endometriosis surgery.
This is a particularly exciting time to join the department as we look to expand the benign gynaecology services and develop our minimal access unit. This will provide the appointee with valuable experience in service development, business case writing and guideline/protocol development.
This is an ideal post for someone keen to develop advanced laparoscopic skills and/ or complete the RCOG Benign Gynaecology or Acute Gynaecology ATSMs. This will suit a post CCT doctor or a doctor wishing to complete CESR. It will also suit those wishing to increase their surgical experience prior to completing speciality training, through the OOPE route. The primary supervisor for this post will be Mr Francis Usifo.
