Full Job Description

This is an exciting new opportunity with in Respiratory medicine with an attachment to Research. There will be flexibility in the role to develop your own interests in this area.

The role includes the contribution to the teaching and training of staff and students in the medical department. The Department has a teaching programme for the junior Doctors and medical students. Working alongside the college tutor, undergraduate lead and lead nurses to develop training and introduce new innovations.

In addition, you will have the opportunity to contribute to Research and Development. The trust is investing in simulation and the post holder will be able to participate in this exciting development.

Main duties of the job

Job split between Research Department ( 20% : 80%). Monday to Friday 4 days in RCU and 1 day with Research.

Respiratory care Unit (RCU). This is a 7 bedded unit looking after Critical respiratory patients who need Respiratory Support. We have facilities and expertise to look after patients on CPAP, BiPAP , Tracheostomy patients who need ventilation and also patients needed Nasal High Flow Oxygen therapy. There is daily Consultant led ward round and it is expected that the trainee will do daily rounds with the consultant in the morning and then based in RCU till end of the day at 5 PM. The trainee will act on the post ward round jobs and expected to do their own mini round in afternoon and make contact with family as well. The mini round will then be discussed with the RCU consultant. RCU consultant normally see referral in the afternoon and for experience, the trainee might be involved in seeing referrals to be admitted to RCU.

There is expectation of doing QIP / audit projects and also opportunity to take part in small research project with Barnsley Research Department if interested and or time permitted.
