Full Job Description

The role is initially for 6 months, 3 months as a Transfer Doctor in ACCESS and 3 months in ICU, with the view of extending to 12 months by mutual agreement.
ACCESS is the London regional adult critical care transfer service committed to ensuring the
secure, reliable, compassionate, and proficient transfer of critically ill patients throughout the
capital., Join the dedicated, multi-disciplinary transfer team as the transfer doctor to complete clinical, capacity and repatriation moves for critically unwell patients.
Take clinical leadership of the team and undertake safe inter-hospital transfers with distant supervision (after an appropriate period of supervision and sign-off)
Ensure thorough and accurate record keeping during transfers
Perform effective clinical handover when handing over to receiving team
Carry out appropriate equipment checks at the beginning and end of the day
Attend daily pan-London briefings
Carry out clinical transfers to the level appropriate to training
Proactively engage in education, governance and QI activities on project days
Have an active role in service development and training

We value our differences and fully advocate, cultivate and support an inclusive working environment., The directorate of Critical Care, Outreach and Resuscitation sits within the division of Surgery, Cancer and Cardiovascular sciences. The directorate manages 3 critical care units
on 3 sites (Charing Cross Hospital currently 24 beds, St Mary's Hospital 16 beds, Hammersmith Hospital GICU 16 beds). The 3 units have a close working relationship and together provide critical care services to support local tertiary level specialist centres as well as providing general critical care services to the local populations. The throughput between all units is more than 3000 admissions per year. The facilities at all 3 sites are very modern. All beds are fully equipped with standardized modular monitoring and with information technology allowing access to pathology and radiology results and patient documentation.

London ACCESS operates 24 hours a day 7 days a week. The shift patterns are 0800 - 2000, 1000 - 2200 and 21:00 - 09:00 across the various sites. A typical week would consist of 3 clinical shifts and one day for project work on a bespoke rota pattern to ensure you can use your time most effectively.
ICU Shifts vary in length from 8 to 13 hours. The work pattern amounts to an average of less than 48 hours per week (including weekends) for all grades. We run a full 7 day service.
