Full Job Description

Applications are invited for a nine month fixed term post at King's College Hospital. The Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery at King's College Hospital is one of the busiest units in London and the successful candidate will be well supported by a cohort of 10 consultants and 5 specialist registrars. King's College Hospital NHS Foundation Trust has accredited major trauma centre status and as part of King's Health Partners, forms one of only five Academic Health Science Centres in the United Kingdom.

The post-holder will have access to the same educational opportunities and assessments as other departmental trainees., The OMFS trainee will be integrated into the oral and maxillofacial surgery team. They will cover the Oral and Maxillofacial Dental Core Trainee clinical duties both at the Denmark Hill site and Queen Mary's Hospital, Sidcup site. Duties will include working in the out patient department and within the operating theatres, the provision of an on-call commitment and attendance at Minor Oral Surgery and Oral Medicine clinics.

They will work under the direction of a Consultant or other appropriate senior clinician. The trainee will be expected to maintain accurate clinical records and respect for patient confidentiality and data protection. They will, when appropriate, refer patients to other Dental Care Professionals and Health Care Workers.

They will participate in appropriate study days according to needs identified in their Personal Development Plan (PDP), and any mandatory training required by the Trust.

They will take part in departmental clinical governance including clinical audit and peer review. Time is dedicated specifically for these activities in order to promote continual improvement in the quality of care provided.

Appraisals will be carried out by Educational Supervisors, who have been trained in appraisals and mentoring.

They will also perform other duties in occasional emergency and unforeseen circumstances at the request of a Consultant, with their colleagues both junior and senior where practicable.
