Full Job Description
We are looking for 2 Clinical Fellows at ST3+ level to join our Paediatric department at The Great Western Hospital. One post is available from the 4thSeptember 2024 for a period of 12 months, and the other from October 2024 for the same period.
This is a full time post following a full shift rota, but less than full time would also be considered.
The Great Western Hospital opened in 2002 following a move from the Princess Margaret Hospital elsewhere
The Duties outlined below are not definitive and may be changed in accordance with the needs of the service.
Clinical Duties:
1. To be part of the ST1-3 Team (junior-grade) at the Great Western Hospital.
2. To provide in-patient services for children and infants
3. To participate in professional meetings for patient care
4. To participate in the Junior paediatric rota [including out of hours]
5. Participation in clinical audits.
6. To contribute to undergraduate/post-graduate and continuing medical education activity.
7. Conducting suitable duties in cases of emergencies and unforeseen circumstances.
8. Participate actively in patient safety, morbidity and other professional/patient meetings
9. Participate actively in Child Safeguarding
The Great Western Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust provides acute hospital services (at the Great Western Hospital) and maternity services across Wiltshire. At the Great Western Hospital we have all of the facilities you would expect to find in a busy general hospital including an Emergency Department with separate Paediatric area, Childrens Unit with Paediatric Assessment Unit, Level 2 Special Care Baby Unit, Delivery Suite next to the Baby Unit, a full range of diagnostics tests such as X-ray, MRI and CT scans, outpatient clinics and 21 inpatient wards.
We have an impressive track record on issues such as patient safety and infection control. We have exciting projects in neonatology and acute paediatrics, as well an active programme of transition from child to adult services across all specialties. We have an active Learning from Excellence process too.
It is a busy Paediatric department with wide experience obtained in both general and Neonatal Paediatrics.
Swindon is set in the rural beauty of Wiltshire, with Bristol, Oxford and London all just 1 hour away by road or rail. There are excellent shopping, social and sports facilities within easy reach.

Management and Leadership Responsibilities:
All staff in each Directorate are managerially accountable through their Lead Clinician and to the Associate Medical Director, who has overall responsibility for the services within the Directorate. Clinical Fellow ST1-3 level doctors are key members of the Directorate team and are accountable and responsible for following the changes to service that will improve the patient experience set out by senior members of the team.
1. The post holder will ensure effective communication and involvement of staff across the Directorate including support to the Divisional Director to achieve their objectives.
2. Work in partnership with colleagues in other Directorates within the Trust.
3. Work within the Trust's framework for Clinical Governance and Risk, including the development of clinical policies and adherence to standing orders, standing financial instructions and financial procedures.
