The role of the clinical lead occupational therapist is to ensure their service area provides a quality service which is evidence-based, effective and efficient. The role also requires a focus on staff management, engaging staff in an attitude of excellence, inspiring and motivating staff and leading by strong example to provide the best service, striving for continual improvement.
The clinical lead will possess significant experience and highly specialist clinical knowledge (theory and practice) in the therapy management of older adults in the acute setting with a range of conditions and comorbidities impacting on their physical, cognitive and mental health.
Team management is a core component of this role with the clinical lead taking
responsibility for the provision of their service, managing both their own and supporting others to manage a complex clinical caseload.
Excellent interpersonal skills are required to work across services and disciplines to provide a coordinated, integrated service. As an expert the clinical lead will make an active contribution to training both within and external to the organisation.
The role has work commitments outside of core working hours i.e. late shift and weekend hours., To demonstrate highly specialist knowledge in the clinical area of Occupational Therapy with Older adults, with proven experience of undertaking standardized and non-standardised assessments and therapeutic interventions with this patient cohort.
Manage a complex caseload using excellent organisation, prioritisation and delegation skills and support others in the team to do the same.
To demonstrate the ability to manage risk pertaining to decisions relating to patient care and discharge to achieve safe and positive results for patients.
To be an effective leader, willing to take responsibility and ensure that the allocated service area provides a quality service which is evidence-based, effective and efficient.
To be involved and lead when required, the repatriation process and therapy provision for trauma repatriated patients from major trauma centres.
To be responsible for the operational management of allocated teams supporting both clinically and managerially Occupational Therapists, Physiotherapists, Apprentices and Therapy support staff.
To work closely with the Clinical Leads OT & PT to manage operational responsibilities including recruitment, 7 days staffing rota's, supervision, appraisal, and mandatory training compliance.
To work proactively to support patient flow and timely discharges as an individual practitioner and by providing senior support to allocated teams.
To contribute to the strategic development of the In-patient Therapy Service.
