Full Job Description

An exciting opportunity has arisen on the paediatric Critical Care Unit (PCCU), for a band 6 Clinical Nurse Educator. This is a permanent position, working 16.75 hours per week.
The Clinical Nurse Educator will work within the Clinical Education team in collaboration with the Clinical Lead Nurse on PCCU to maintain and develop all aspects of staff education, development and training to the paediatric critical care speciality so as to ensure the highest standard of patient care delivery.
Experience of working within Paediatric Critical Care is essential along with teaching experience/qualifications., The post holder will play the lead role in delivering education, training and practice development within PCCU. The post holder is expected to act as a role model to provide clinical leadership to the nursing team, liaising with medical and nursing staff, sharing expert knowledge and support to nursing colleagues in the clinical setting, and ensure quality care provision to the children, using unit protocols and Trust policies and guidelines.
In partnership with the Clinical Lead Nurse and education team, the post holder is responsible to plan aspects of staff education, development and training needs and lead in the implementation of evidence-based, patient focused practice. They will provide training programmes for staff working within the critical care unit. They will maintain links with institutes of further learning and be an active member of national benchmarking groups to ensure the ongoing training of nursing care in the medical in-patient setting., + Deliver the training, education & development of nursing practice for PCCU
+ To provide professional nursing/operational advice on issues or factors affecting care delivery
+ To work in partnership with the Clinical Lead Nurse and Education Team, ensuring that all staff engage in continuing professional development, participate in the appraisal system and review their performance developing a meaningful professional development plan.
+ Provide professional advice and support to staff in the department.
+ To ensure that all staff know where to access trust policies and clinical procedure guidelines and that staff adhere to these at all times.
+ To participate and support staff in the development of audits of service delivery and implementation of findings to improve patient care.
+ To undertake relevant Trust wide projects in agreement with the Surgery and Critical Care, Care Group Management Team.
+ To be an expert, knowledgeable and visible practitioner within the specialty ensuring the provision of high quality evidence based nursing care for the children and their families.
+ To act as an advocate for the child and family.
+ To be competent in the administration of medication as per the Trust's Medicines Management Policy
+ Develop and review policies and standards for the safe use of equipment and any new equipment introduced to the department.
