Full Job Description

Are you a nurse specialist who is passionate about supporting children and young people with a diagnosis of autism and/or learning disability in mental health crisis?
The Children's Intensive Support Team (IST) for Coventry and Warwickshire is expanding, and we have a new opportunity for a community nurse specialist to join the team. This is an exciting time at the Trust, as we expand our offer to become the lead provider locally for integrated children's services.
The IST is a specialist multi-disciplinary team, consisting of occupational therapists, psychologists, speech and language therapists and nurses. The team started as a pilot project over six years ago and aims to reduce the number of children with autism and/ or a learning disability in hospital with mental health needs.
As our community nurse specialist, you will lead the nursing team and play a key role in formulating and directing interventions. You will be responsible for providing assessment and behavioural/ therapeutic treatment programmes and undertake supervision. You will liaise with and work collaboratively with other agencies according to the needs of the young person.
The role can be offered on a full or part-time basis. Whilst based at Wayside House in Coventry, the role is flexible with some hybrid working and travel required across Coventry and Warwickshire. We would welcome a conversation or service visit if you would like to know more!, Experience in assessment skills, chairing multi-agency meetings and a working knowledge of the Positive Behavioural Support model would be advantageous; or a willingness to access training in this approach is essential.
A good working understanding of neurodevelopmental disorders would be essential.
As one of the lead clinicians in the team you will have a role in formulating and directing interventions. You will take responsibility for providing assessment and behavioural/therapeutic treatment programmes for these individuals.
You will have a proven ability to liaise with and work in collaboration with other relevant agencies according to the needs of the young person.
The Trust is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of individuals and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment. As part of our safe recruitment practice, if appropriate for the role, it is mandatory requirement for all newly appointed staff to be registered with the Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) Update Service.
