A further exciting opportunity for a full time Band 6 Endocrine Clinical Nurse Specialist (Adults), has become available to work within the Diabetes & Endocrinology Team within the University Hospitals of Derby and Burton NHS Foundation Trust. UHDB covers 5 hospital sites and you may be requested to work at any one of those., We have a comprehensive Endocrine Unit for all Endocrine Problems; sub - speciality clinics include Pituitary, Gynae -Endocrine, Thyroid Eye Clinic, Thyroid Cancer clinic, Thyroid-Surgical MDT clinic and Antenatal- Endocrine, Lipid Clinic Service for Derby/South Derbyshire and Metabolic Bone Service. We also work closely with surgical colleagues in Derby and Nottingham in managing those patients who require surgery for their Endocrine Conditions. The Following are integral aspects of the role:-

  • Nurse Led Clinics for those with Thyroid and Calcium related disorders
  • Undertaking tests/ investigations in the Medical Day case unit
  • Steroid advise to Addison's/Adrenal insufficiency patients, including how to self administer emergency injections of hydrocortisone
  • Giving cholesterol injections including how to self administer
  • Teaching Growth Hormone deficiency patients with a choice of how to self administer
  • Part of this role will involve redesigning pathways to streamline our service.

    We are looking for an individual with broad adult experience as a Registered Nurse, with a positive outlook and a passion for driving services forward. Experience within Endocrinology and across inpatient / outpatient / community settings is preferred, but anyone who can demonstrate a high standard of general adult nursing may apply. You will have demonstrable 3 - 5 years experience as a Registered Nurse currently with, or willing to undertake, a degree and non-medical prescribing qualification.
